I know that Whidbey Island is in GMU 410 which is firearms restricted. I know I can't use centerfire rifles for hunting deer here. The question I have is can I hunt with my Ruger Blackhawk 45 Colt on the island?
-
Yes. As long as the gun meets the requirements for a legal hunting hand gun you are fine.

:yeah:

Has anyone ever shot a deer over there bigger than a dog?? Just wondering, not too familiar with the Whidbey Island hunting details
-
I personally have not but my friend shot a beautiful nontypical 5 by 6 on Whidbey this year.

SORRY GUYS, JUST WANNA UP MY POST COUNT UNTIL I HIT THE 50 MARK.

Why do you want a higher count?

You have to have at least 50 posts by the 7th or you can search the classifieds

Older thread I know, but I just got here. I live on Whidbey, little south of coupeville, and I have seen some respectable bucks around. Definately bigger than a dog, not any kind of bruisers though.

i was stationed up there for a couple years, there are some nice big deer on the island unfortuatly most that i have seen or on the parks,, fort ebie namly, though when coming in on the twenty before deeception pass the is a large feild north of pass lake and one year i would see the same buck in that field everynight. he was n o monster but very respectable 5x5 i imagine somonegot him. they are there for sure and i'd imagine the people who say the deer there are small probly dont know to much or spend much time out there.

:yeah: A few years ago a friend of mine was dropping off his "Island" deer at the butcher and another guy was dropping off his deer at the same time and commented about "Island Deer" being no bigger then dogs....You should have seen his face when my buddies deer was a 140 lb 4x4 (hanging weight) and outweighed his deer by 30lbs!

I've seen a couple of decent deer on Whidbey Island over the years. Most of my family lives there. The problem with that place is that space is limited (it's an island ya know) and no one hunts there. I've been watching a decent 3x4 on my dad's property for awhile now and if my high hunt doesn't go well in September...watch out deer!

I see nice deer out there all the time turkey too

Turkeys? are they on public land?
-
Turkeys?????? I have been out here on the Island for 28 years and killed plenty of Island blacktail, most are small in the 125 # range, but there are a few if you take the time that are much larger. Biggest problem with Whidbey is most is private property and way too many tree huggers. I have posted some trail cam picks of deer on my property and there are plenty but not a lot of big ones worth using your tag. Now I want to know where the turkeys are.... only ones I have seen are penned up. Don't doubt them being here wild as I have heard of them on Fidalgo and a few other Islands in the San Juans but never seen them. So come on and tell us where are them birds??

I used to live just north of Mariners Cove and would see turkey out there occasionally. Just tihs winter there was a group of them hanging out on the south side of oak harbor on highway 20 that all got shot because they thought they would cause an accident. Did it in a guy that I work withs driveway. I have 5 acres south of coupeville and there is 10 undeveloped acres next to me that I have thought about releasing turkey in, but there are so many coyotes around I think I would be wasting my money.
