Wish I could come up and help with that too.
ANy advice for our game department down here that think having a rapidly expanding wolf population is GREAT for the rest of the game populations or what it does to the moose that was just getting a foothold here. :)

Folks (most of 'em) here in the rural/bush areas of the state understand the need for a balance to exist between predator and prey.
Just yesterday in the Anchorage paper there was an article about wolves coming into Marshall which is on the Yukon River sort of near the delta, upriver but still not what you would consider interior country, and killing sled dogs tied up in town.
Wolves coming into town killing sled dogs. The moose population is robust there, no shortage of prey yet the wolves recognize an easy meal and grab it.
The problem is a national trend of glorifying the wolf, grizzlies and other animals of prey as being this essential cog in the ecosystem keeping a balance that man has no need to keep. Just let the animals manage themselves and life will be great.
Throw into the mix an element of individuals who rarely leave the cities they live in but feel good knowing there are wolves and bears"out there".
Throw in the folks who are hardcore users of the outdoors who are there to see a wolf track or bear track and gasp at the sight of hunter orange and you have a fine mess.
Here in our state of Alaska we have a Governor who has left in place a program of predator control that was enacted by the previous administration. Very unpopular with the urban folks, the Outside animal protectors, the folks who like to know bears and wolves are there and quite a few others. However the Caribou and Moose can't speak but I bet if you asked them they'd say thanks man!
In fact the State had a vote regarding predator control and it was voted on by a majority of the population as being unsporting and unneeded. We had Administrations come and go for a few decades that did nothing to help out the prey populations and left to do their thing wolf numbers grew very high. Also throw in the high cost of an Outside hunter coming up to do a Bear hunt and your not really getting much bear control done there. There are only so many "Grizzlykillers" here. I for one have a policy. If we kill a moose we will kill a bear.
Again the moose dig it.
So throw in the politics of the Puget Sound and King County. The folks who recount a Governors race over and over until they get the number they like and boy your in trouble.
I think that the State of Washington will have wolves in abundance in ten years. Cats are already pounding ungulates and there are just too many green types on Mercer Island and thereabouts to reverse the trend.
You know I'd love to retire someday and move over to Winthrop where my mom is from but I'd have to deal with the politics of Olympia.
