Never been but I'm going anyway, this'll most likely just be a scouting trip and doing a lotta hiking with guns
-
Hopefully everyone is prepared to deal with the meat and the hide in this heat....at least on the eastside. good luck everyone!!
-
Was just going to ask about meat handling in this heat and what plans were, but that is another thread. Good luck all, Wish I could be out there.

Lots of threads on handling meat in the heat already
-
Some options to consider:
- Find shade to work on your animal
- Quarter or bone out, it will cool quicker
- Quickly load in a vehicle and get to a nearby cooler/freezer
- Do not put warm meat in plastic bags
- Take some sort of refrigeration with you and don't hunt too far from it
- Avoid hunting where it will take too many hours to pack the meat out
- Get the meat in a cool stream to cool if needed and pack out at night/morning when it's cooler
-
Crowinghen and I will be hitting it all day tomorrow and every evening for the next 9 days. Hoping the last four months of scouting will pay off.
-
The first time I’ll be out is going to be the 17th and 18th. I’ve got fishing planned the next few weekends.
-
My father, my Uncle and I will be hunting bear August 3rd-14th.
-
My son and his best friend headed out last night. Got a text a little bit ago that said "bear down". That's all I got! More details to come. I do know that the shooter was testing the smoke pole out. Hopefully he got it with the old stuffer!
-
Heading out after work tonight to see if I can find one :IBCOOL:

Had a chance at a 100# +/- this morning opted not to shoot. Also seen a kid with a boar in the 125-150# range. His first bear, waiting to see a pic on here, not sure if he's a member or not.

Shot a real good one this morning. He lit out 100mph straight into an absolute hellhole. Cant find him, nor even a drop of blood. I had to have gotten him. Impossible to miss shot. This is the crap im trying to find him in. Wish me luck.
-
You'll get him mister... half moon circles starting at the last spot you saw, or heard him.... Once you cut that blood, he'll probably be close if you hit him solid.

If you can't find him today, i would be willing to buzz up there tomorrow morning and help look
-
That certainly qualifies as a HellHole, good luck!

I do wish you the best of luck sir! Hope you can find him! On a side note I always look thoroughly at these photos hoping I see the bear under a log or something LOL 😂

Sorry this happened, if WA would make blood tracking dogs legal I could take one of my hounds and we would probably find your bear. Try to run a grid pattern in your search and go further than you think the bear would go. Good luck!
-
Yeah, what Wapittalk said... all that brush is perfect to catch blood, once you find the blood it will be easy to track in that thick stuff... and I agree with your assessment, definitely a hell hole!! Good job!! You’ll find it!!

Good to see some bears hittin the dirt first day. Little Path and I didn't have any luck. Hunted all day. Called in a good spot until dark. We had much better luck with the huckleberries than we did with the hucklebears...

Cant tell you how many times my dog has saved the day!

that sucks, I shot a bear last night at 8 yards that I called in and dropped the bear in its tracks. I would have had to track it through an old clearcut that was almost as thick as that it I hadn't dropped it. I just feel lucky.
-
Mark the spot you were standing when you shot him and mark the spot where he was when you hit him that way you have a consistent reference point for tracking. Grid the area. If it was a good shot chances are he didn't go far. Good luck
-
Good luck Bango I hope you were able to find it. After hunting all day we had a big bear coming down the hill as we were walking back to the truck. I am really trying to get my brother his first bear so I tell him to shoot. He pulls up and click. Ejects the round that we later inspect and it was a primer fail. Shot Hornady superfirmance for years with no issue and of course the one that does is the one that counts. Bear turns back up hill he can’t see him. He moves to where I am and by that point can only see the top 1/3 of its body. He took the shot but was rushed and frustrated. No blood and no bear. Will be back up there tomorrow so hopefully we can find him again.
-
Missed the opening had to go hang out on the wetside for a few days, just got home though.....

@Bango skank shot a bear yesterday and never told us whether he found it even though he posted about bumping one this morning. I'm still "patiently" waiting.
-
I never found my bear. Hes dead there somewhere. I went back today, laid down to take a nap where i shot him before the search. Woke up to the sound of some knucklehead blasting some awful sounding ecaller at 1000 decibels maybe a couple hundred yards up from the hellhole the bear ran into. Dont know what the sound was, constipated basset hound maybe. Decided messing around in that brushy mess with some dude with a rifle above me was probably a bad idea. Meat is spoiled by now anyways, not worth risking getting shot over to keep looking. Ill be back hunting tuesday morning.

So you shot a bear, certain it died, never found it, so you're going to shoot another one?

You can shoot two bears a year now...

It's happened to all who have hunted for any amount of time. No reason to kick a guy when he's down. I would be comfortable with knowing I gave it my all top try to recover the animal. Best of luck this season Bango!

I have full faith and confidence that bango gave it all he could in finding that bear, as good as anyone on this forum, and I wish him luck in anchoring his next bear!

Three. Bango is the real deal.
By the way, does FoxPro have a "constipated basset hound" setting?

Same thing happened to me this spring. I hunted the rest of the weekend, came back the following weekend, still couldn’t find the bear, so maybe he didn’t die. Until you find the animal you never know. I’ll be hunting this fall with the same unpunched tag.

As echoed already...for sure then one more.

Soon, very soon. Would like to get my first. Probably will only plan for one. Only want what two of us can eat. Hoping for a variety of meat this year.

We didn’t see a bear, but did see 5 moose including 1 bull. Pretty hot this weekend, need to learn how to call bears in.
