Title: Bracco Italiano
Post by: jagermiester on August 10, 2019, 01:55:05 PM
At the end of the month my 14 year old son and I will drive to Utah and pick up his Braccco Italiano puppy. This will be my son’s dog to train and hunt pal around with. Tony Bricker has been so great to work with I really hope this dog will be a good fit for my son

Narrowing it down probably one of these two.
My boy has read more in the last two days than he has all summer. He pretty much recited 3 chapters of the green book to me tonight.

I shipped one over from the east coast this winter. We love her! I can’t wait to hunt over her this fall. 👌🏻 You guys will be so happy. They’re an amazing breed.

Have you done much training. How has your pup responded to birds? My son is super excited, I showed him your response and it just fueled his fire.

She has been bird crazy since day one! It’s bread into them, just like any other hunting breed. She is currently at the trainer and they are saying she has been doing great. I get to go next month and start shooting over her. I can’t Wait. I’ve never used a trainer before, always trained my own hunting dogs. But I really wanted to make sure it was done correctly and I was short on time with a hectic summer work schedule. I’ll try to post pics as she progresses.

That's awesome, I was about 14 when I got my hunting dog. That's a great time to have some responsibility thrust on you and a fun companion to boot. Hope he enjoys it as much as I did.

So far it has been a great experience. We had her swimming a bunch this weekend and we introduced a little tracking with a piece of lamb fat at the end. My son is doing well with the responsibility portion.
They have bonded so well, she follows him around everywhere!

Her first bird hunt went great. We took a short hike and my son stayed back 100 yards. She really wanted in on any action she could get. I’m really excited about this dog.

Took little Lady (5 months now) on her first hunt yesterday. She found two birds we shot. Both we would not have found without a dog. She stayed very close until we met up with my other son and older dog. Lot’s of fun. My younger son was so proud of her.

I know very little but that sounds pretty outstanding for a young pup.

I’ve seen these work in hunt tests and they’re really cool to watch. Sooo much different from typical pointing breeds.

Last weekend ended this little pups play time. She got plenty of good exposure this hunting season and on the last hunt got hot on scent and put a covey up. My boy was talking to the breeder and he said these dogs can be slow to develop. So on to whoa training with patience and no rush. I’m really pleased so far with her stamina and coordination. She went on a couple of long hunts at the end (7+ miles 1000’ elevation climb) 6 months old no problem what so ever. No boot polishing not even at the end of the day. I’m excited to see where she will be next year.

A couple of weeks ago my son took his pup through the natural ability test. She did great! I was so happy for my son and can’t wait to get a full year of hunting under this dog’s feet and see what the wild birds can teach her. I think that she is going to be a very good chukar dog.

That’s awesome!! Good job! That’s neat to see your son doing the work and responsibility! Just got a dog myself and will be taking it through NA next spring.

That’s awesome! Training for natural ability is such a great way to lay a solid foundation for your bird dog have fun with the pup. What breed?

Man I learned something new after raising dogs for my whole life . I have never heard of the breed before and would have swore that pup was a red tick hound.  (I had hounds for over 20 plus years till the hippies outlawed my seasons). I have Chessie's now and hunt mostly waterfowl with them, only an occasional rooster or sharptail (Mt).
