Title: Bear Question?
Post by: frogman338 on August 12, 2019, 09:47:50 PM
Was calling a bear the other day and had the cubs respond to rabbit distress outta nowhere. Heard branches snapping in the thicket around 150 yards away from me, but after about 5 mins everything went quite. Any thoughts on why the bear didn't show up? (I wasn't gonna shoot the mama bear, just wondering why I never saw the bear)

Are you sure it was bears?  Did you actually see them?

If you thought it was cubs then you musta seen them?

If you were not concealed and were looking around for the source of the noise, you were probably visually busted.......and or scent or it wasnt bear.  If you didnt see what was making noise it could have been anything.

Yea I heard the cubs, it sounds like they were calling for their mom or something. They were responding back whenever I'd manipulate the call and make it sound like cub distress. I started calling because I heard it breaking the bush and slamming everything in there but didn't come out to the clearcut

Maybe the cut youre calling in is too open? Could try calling in the timber, critters may feel more secure coming in to the call with some cover around.
