Title: Grant County Fair Lambs
Post by: C-Money on August 18, 2019, 04:36:46 PM
What a great week at the Grant County Fair! With a little interest on here about fair lambs, I thought I would give a report. Market went well on Tuesday with my daughter getting a blue and my son getting a call back. Wednesday, my daughter took Grand Champion in prospect lamb, which was pretty exciting!

Thursday was Fitting & Showing. My Son won his class and punched his ticket to the Jr Fit and Show  final drive. He took Reserve Grand Champion finishing only to his best friend and fellow 4-H club member who was Grand Champion. Was pretty awesome for my little buddy!

My Daughter also won her class of intermediates in Fit & Show to punch her ticket to the Intermediate Fit and Show Final drive. Her lamb and her showed as well as ever, and they were rewarded as Intermediate Grand Champions!

Proud of my kids. My Daughter showed her Horse, competed in Western Games, bringing home some more ribbons. She rode in the grand entry all 3 night of the Moses Lake Roundup. She also did well with her rabbit. My son only showed his lamb, but was very busy as well.

Man that’s some good stuff. Congrats to them for all their hard work and the rewards they EARNED!!

We coop in on Wednesday night at the evergreen state fair in Monroe. My kid shows rabbits but she’s also competing in the foods and plant and soil sciences(gardening). A couple of our friends are showing sheep and will be selling lambs.

Our youth livestock show is Saturday night.

:chuckle: My son is a happy little guy, but he is not much of a smiler for the camera. The pic with the judge was a pretty good smile though!

Congrats!  That makes me miss my 4-H fair days, I did horses and pigs.  It's a ton of work, but it looks like your kids had fun and were successful! Now it's time to start planning for next year's fair  :yike: :chuckle:

Yes! Planning already...Kids want to buy a heifer and enter into the bred heifer category. Daughter has the plan of gaining experience showing a large animal by way of the heifer and going on to a steer the next year. She is even looking as far forward as to showing the heifers calf if its a bull calf...She makes a good argument... :chuckle:

@Jackelope...good luck to you guys at Monroe! Looking forward to hearing how it goes!

I love seeing posts like this and the other one.  I've thought about posting more 4-H stuff because I feel there would be families in this community with kids who might be interested. Maybe I will. Whether it's showing lambs and rabbits and beef cows or the other non-animal stuff, it's a great program for kids to get involved in. Promoting this stuff to get more kids involved will only do good things.
Thanks for sharing.

Obviously, my kids did well...That said...YES! I though he was a very good judge. I liked how he ran the classes and the different ways he lined up the exhibitors while evaluating the animals and showmen. He seemed very consistent.

The buckles were extremely nice this year at Grant County. People were very impressed with the quality awards they handed out to the champion exhibitors. Adams County (Othello) Fair is coming up fast! Looking forward to another fun week!

Just signed my youngest daughter up for 4h this year (shes eight years old)

someone else took it over from the ffa side this year so we're gonna give it a go while enrolment is fresh. She also competes in the talent show as an open competitor. My older daughter is about done and off to college next year but might show one last time.

Very nice buckles this year! I hope my kids will earn one or two in the future.
I encourage all 4H and FFA clubs to create a livestock booster group that helps raise money to support these kids’ projects. This group will help level the money each kid receives. My family decided to donate to the boosters rather than purchase an individual animal to help avoid the politics of supporting only a few kids. My two oldest kids showed a rabbit and a chicken this year and hope to move up to heifers in the future. Love the fair!

I'm pretty sure that Grand and Reserve Grand for large and small species all get buckles at Grant.

My son won a grand champion buckle for his market rabbit last year so this year I bought/sponsored a buckle for the barn. Grant county is a great fair with great kids! My nieces have been winning ribbons/buckles in the rabbit barn for a few years. I love watching them as they are rewarded for their hard work.
