Title: Benelli Repaint
Post by: theonlybfc on August 21, 2019, 08:26:08 AM
Recently picked up a used Benelli Centro Sport from the forum. The previous owner had painted it with some very industrial paint. While the paint was definitely of great quality and would protect the gun, it just didn't quite fit my eye. Plus, in between seasons I needed a project to calm me down. The shotgun is a Benelli Centro Sport.

Here is how the shotgun looked when I brought it home.

The owner was not kidding, there is no doubt in my mind that the paint he used was industrial. I've never spent so much time removing paint. After a couple of hours I got it all removed and bare the shotgun looked good. Unfortunately the paint remover I used made it's way through the lacquer on parts of the wood stock. I could have sanded it down and then lacquered it and had a beautiful piece. Being that this is going to be my bird gun for the year though and I'll be hunting out of a kayak I knew I should paint it.

I like the Optifade Marsh camo and tried to base my paint scheme off that pattern. In the end I like how it turned out and I can't wait to get it on the birds!

Looks good, I also like the Punisher on there. I was planning on doing the Punisher on my rifle stock that I'm building, but with a sponge as I'm doing sponge camo.

Thanks guys. It was a good learning experience. It was my first time doing a camo pattern. Definitely learned some things for next time as well. What are you guys doing for clear coat? I was really happy with the paint I used. it laid down with no shine or reflection. I put some clear matte on top hoping it wouldn't shine with the matte finish but it did.

Glad a couple of you guys liked the Punisher. I wanted to put a couple more on but glad I just did the one this go around.

Well done! I almost bought that shotgun when it was on the forum but I’m glad it was you and not me. You did a better job with it than I would have. Thanks for posting!

I don’t clear coat. Haven’t found one that doesn’t shine so I quit

How do you feel your paint lasts? Does it wear off pretty easily without the clear coat?

I think it lasts pretty good.  This was painted 4 or 5 years ago
