Title: Rutting
Post by: Kamicausey on September 01, 2019, 08:33:09 PM
I saw a nice big bull rounding up 5 cows a 4 calves bugling like crazy today. Rut is going to be early this year on the east side. It’s nice and cold up there in the morning.

Nice. Saw 8 cows and 5 calves on the westside today and no bull in sight. No response to bugle either.

West side camera is showing lots of cows with nothing but spikes  with them. Bulls on camera are running solo not grouped so it seems things are moving in the right direction.

I had a few bugling up in the Naneum on Friday night. Nothing to hot but were responding to my bugles way more than cow calls.

Was down in Eastern Oregon this last weekend.  Had bulls screaming on Saturday, nothing on Sunday and had a bull cutting me off on Monday.  My brother killed a decent 5 point Saturday morning.  Gonna be a good one.

I killed i little 5x5 while he was raking a tree last Sunday, but he couldn't care less about my calling to him. The little bugger made me go ninja on him, for a 10 yard shot.

Two bugles so far in SW Washington.

Spikes are still with the cows. The bigger bulls I have seen are solo and have no velvet.

It is almost time  :IBCOOL:

While I agree that the rut is the same general time every year, there is most definitely different levels of activity on any given day. I took the post as inquiring about that  :dunno:

Whats your point? That people shouldnt discuss what they are hearing/seeing in the woods regarding the rut?

Heard 3-4 bulls calling last night between 830-930 in the 654 :)

I heard 5 different bulls bugle on the Oregon coast last weekend, but it was a bit early. I think this weekend should be the typical stall before the actual good rut activity starts. The weekend following that should be great. My hunting partner, and i have killed 35 plus elk between the 15th, and the 23rd

So far not hearing any bugling in central cascades, few groups of cows by themselves and had two 5 point bulls cruise by this morning together. No bugling. Although they were hard answered and one beat up a tree pretty good

Had a few bulls bugle back Saturday and Sunday on the West side.  They Responded 2 or 3 times then got silent and never came in. The last 3 days of early season should be good.

Elk are in the final stages of herding up. It’s a great time of year to be in the elk woods. It’s all good, all phases of the rut have their perks  ;).

HC, they’re talking for sure. I have  “normally” hunted the spud state for the last 7-8? years anywhere from early SEP to the end of the month and I can assure you, if you’re in an area that holds Wapiti, they’re talking. Locate after dark, get after them before sunrise, they’ll be in the same place in the morning for a bit before they move to bed.

That has not been my experience, or any of the guys I'm hunting with up here this year.  I have heard two bugles from a bull that we crowded, but that's it.  They're definitely not on fire here.
