I saw a nice big bull rounding up 5 cows a 4 calves bugling like crazy today. Rut is going to be early this year on the east side. It’s nice and cold up there in the morning.
-
Nice. Saw 8 cows and 5 calves on the westside today and no bull in sight. No response to bugle either.
-
West side camera is showing lots of cows with nothing but spikes with them. Bulls on camera are running solo not grouped so it seems things are moving in the right direction.

Had a big bull bugling with some cows Sunday West Side. For this early he was pretty fired up
-
My area they are going crazy
-
I had a few bugling up in the Naneum on Friday night. Nothing to hot but were responding to my bugles way more than cow calls.
-
Central Westside area had bulls going nuts last weekend.
-
Was down in Eastern Oregon this last weekend. Had bulls screaming on Saturday, nothing on Sunday and had a bull cutting me off on Monday. My brother killed a decent 5 point Saturday morning. Gonna be a good one.

I killed i little 5x5 while he was raking a tree last Sunday, but he couldn't care less about my calling to him. The little bugger made me go ninja on him, for a 10 yard shot.

Two bugles so far in SW Washington.
Spikes are still with the cows. The bigger bulls I have seen are solo and have no velvet.
It is almost time :IBCOOL:
-
The rut is the same every year...
:yeah:
And every year we get the same posts about an early rut for deer and elk. :chuckle:

While I agree that the rut is the same general time every year, there is most definitely different levels of activity on any given day. I took the post as inquiring about that :dunno:
-
The rut is the same every year...
Whats your point? That people shouldnt discuss what they are hearing/seeing in the woods regarding the rut?
-
Heard 3-4 bulls calling last night between 830-930 in the 654 :)
-
I heard 5 different bulls bugle on the Oregon coast last weekend, but it was a bit early. I think this weekend should be the typical stall before the actual good rut activity starts. The weekend following that should be great. My hunting partner, and i have killed 35 plus elk between the 15th, and the 23rd

Never said that. No need to get all hostile
-
I heard bulls bugling all morning on the west side last saturday
-
I live a couple hundred yards from Meadowbrook and they are bugling right now.
-
Well it was definitely going on along the coast.
Thursday evening.
-
So far not hearing any bugling in central cascades, few groups of cows by themselves and had two 5 point bulls cruise by this morning together. No bugling. Although they were hard answered and one beat up a tree pretty good
-
Had a few bulls bugle back Saturday and Sunday on the West side. They Responded 2 or 3 times then got silent and never came in. The last 3 days of early season should be good.
-
I hear that Kapowsin tree farm they are going nuts screaming right now
-
It's been noisy around yakima
-
Bulls are rutting up pretty well right now on the East Side. Son and I had this 5x come within 20 yards all mudded up!
-
Coastal bull
-
Evening visitor, here at the house. Yup, things are getting rutty.
-
Elk are in the final stages of herding up. It’s a great time of year to be in the elk woods. It’s all good, all phases of the rut have their perks ;).

Anybody have any reports from idaho?? My buddy and I are headed over to chase some screamers Saturday :rockin:
-
Been pretty quiet around the SW. hard to hear even if they were talking it’s been rainy and blustery so far.
-

HC, they’re talking for sure. I have “normally” hunted the spud state for the last 7-8? years anywhere from early SEP to the end of the month and I can assure you, if you’re in an area that holds Wapiti, they’re talking. Locate after dark, get after them before sunrise, they’ll be in the same place in the morning for a bit before they move to bed.

Thanks for the tip, we will definitely be putting that to work. BTW, your old trailer will be making another trip to Idaho

Sweet. Safe travels and happy hunting! I’m headed out Thursday morning. Time to fill the freezer.

That has not been my experience, or any of the guys I'm hunting with up here this year. I have heard two bugles from a bull that we crowded, but that's it. They're definitely not on fire here.

He knows where to go, it's part of his job.

He has the advantage then. I've been here since last Friday and have heard two bugles....
What's his job?

I have a buddy in central Idaho.
10 miles in to camp, no other hunters around.
Seeing a ton of elk and a lot of bulls.
No rut action.
Kinda weird.

He has lived in the area his entire life. He is high up in DNR for that region.

Not hearing a bunch of favorable reports from NE Washington yet. Anyone seeing much activity? I've only seen one picture of an archery kill up here this season....?

West Side WA bugle updates?

West Side WA bugle updates?
Nothing saturday.
-
East slope elk are lightin' it up. I rifle hunt, so I need all you archery folks to kill some bulls and post photos so I can live vicariously though you :chuckle:
-
West Side WA bugle updates?
Last two bulls I spotted were with cows. I got one to chuckle that's all I have heard all season.
-
Ive had bulls bugling every day since opener on the West side. Rutting is hit or miss. Some bulls are a little hotter than others
-
Probably not gonna turn on this year until October 21st...ish
-
Had bulls screaming on the 3rd, opening morning had bulls screaming and fighting... (almost got a bull) Got a cow on day 4, was into similar action 3 of the 4 days. It was great early action.
-
They're rutting in the blues alright. Picked up a trail cam pick last week of a bull and a cow going at it. :tung: :chuckle:
-
Proof is in the pics

They're not dumb. They know we're looking for them. :chuckle: :chuckle:

I believe one or two hot cows can get them fired up pretty good. Just because your seeing rutted up bulls in your area doesn't mean the rut is going full bore. :twocents:
-
Ran into 3 bulls in colockum. Screaming at day break but no cows.
-
5 days in 336 not a single bugle... at least from an elk :chuckle:
