2 great bulls!
-
Wow those are great bulls, congratulations!
-
Here's my Oregon elk this year.
-
Little bit of luck, I spotted him a couple weeks before the season started and decided that was going to be my bull. Came close the first two evenings, but couldn’t seal the deal due to the lead cow busting me. We tried calling him in, but it was a little early for that and he didn’t wanna come looking for a fight just yet. I ended up setting up a ladder stand next to their main trail they follow each evening on the way to feed and was able tag him.
-
Lewy nice work what a stud. Keep them coming guys.
-
You as well Rex!
-
All three are great animals!! A notched tag is a great success these days. Nice job guys

Nice bulls so far! make me wonder why so many Wa residents come to Idaho every year. Always some nice wa bulls posted up here.
Most of the bulls will be west side if OTC or if east side likely special permit. For the big west side bulls, many are on private land either farms or timber land. With all that harvest is around 9%. If you don't get special permits or private access odds are even lower. Guys I know got tired of their camps getting a raghorn every 5 or 6 years. So they've gone to Idaho and almost all get a mature bull each year and can use their quads in the process while not being rained on for 10 days straight. They seem to enjoy.

Just curious but they move down or up in the evenings to feed?

Last morning magic! I actually have an MS tag but it feels nice to do it with the bow! 26yds after tailing a roving rut parade for three hours. We had three different 6x6 bulls within 40yds. Super exciting hunt!

I know of 2 Observatory tags that did not get filled. Not for lack of effort. I only saw 1 spike in all of the camps I passed by or talked to throughout the season and that was later on.

Great trip this year to northern New Mexico. First day out of rifle season Oct 1. Clear morning with light wind, worked from top of mountain at 10,700ft hunted a couple of hours with some call locating and ultimately fairly aggressive calling. All to the ultimate success and a very unique bull.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191004/f9eefbb9d440d6bfeba0b52e360fd5e3.jpg)

Wow! That's a super cool Bull. I bet He did some damage to the other boys He was fighting.
He has one large tine broken on the top of the non-typical side. He had about thirty cows during archery, we were in the timber and I only saw a handful of cows. He’s big, weight hung at the butcher was 380#. So I’m sure he was able to handle himself.

Sweet bull
-
After my New Mexico morning hunt, we processed my bull and grabbed some lunch. We returned to the field and my brother headed to the other side of the mountain to sit for the afternoon. He got into a herd around 5:00 and it was an active group, 15 or so cows, a couple spikes and a nice 6x6 herd bull. After an early failed attempt to get on them he hunkered down and waited to relocate the bull. Just past sunset he got the shot and took a nice bull.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191007/ae67fa233b9f936310e3a87b7414d3cc.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191007/c204d8c8ce545f82cd50fd8f6f9bd7eb.jpg)

I’ll add mine on here. First is a damage cow tag from here In washington. Second is Idaho cow. I went in September for archery and we got one bull but I came home empty handed. Was sent down to work in Idaho for 2 weeks and was fairly close to my elk zone and noticed a rifle cow hunt with my A tag. My buddy lives in the town I was staying at so on my day off, off we went. I used his rifle and filled the tag I thought was going In the garbage..... I DONT KNOW WHY THE PICS ARE BACKWARDS. IDAHO FIRST WASHINGTON SECOND

Bit delayed posting, been working thru processing it myself. After 5yrs, I finally got it done here in WA on Sat morning. Pretty darn happy with him specially given it is my 1st elk.
Lot of meat hung and cut the last few days while temps were favorable. All tucked away in the freezer now. The steaks and roasts vac sealed and into freezer as soon as they were cut. Middle tray is the grind pile.

I was lucky enough to draw a multi season elk tag this year almost sealed the deal during archery season but missed. Ended up getting one during muzzleloader season. My group I muzzleloader hunted with went 5/5. Helped out my rifle rifle season crew mainly as chauffer and elk retriever. They also ended up with 5 but they got their last one after I left.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191114/6ae2e63e08a91ad6bbc31c5fc7dc35e2.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191114/cef260efe8d6b8f1d6b85eaf906f7598.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191114/02f0e82da2096d0ff278268822d2cf90.jpg)

Great bulls (and cows) everyone! All beautiful animals! I'll have to wait another year before I can put the first one up on the scoreboard. Ended up eating my general season cow tag in 335 this year.

Beautiful, well done! Story?

Nate and his buddies from Full Draw Outdoors have hit it hard the last week. Two others got cows in the last week also. They spotted his elk in a creek bottom and he stalked 200 yds making a perfect shot at the edge of his effective range, putting her down right away. Wife and I were out of town so he called sharing the news. His group rallied and got it all out that night.
-
Had a pretty good few days of elk hunting, found one that gave away his position and moved in really aggressively on him (he didn’t want to come out) I pretty much ran in calling and breaking brush. Caught a few glimpses of him as he retreated. Kept after them calling like a rut crazed bull. I thought this was the bull right up to about 2 seconds before I released my arrow, seen it was a cow and was fine with that. She ran 20 yards and stopped, wobbly legs for a second and tipped over in sight.
-
Nice cow harvested Dec 6 and my cousin got a 3 point from same group 5 minutes later. Only pic was of hanging cow in garage. Pretty good season this year, lots of opportunities and finally got this one after cat and mouse with the herd in timber for 1.5 hours before a suitable shot at 55 yds.

Is it just me or has it been very quiet for elk this year? I am not seeing a lot of posts.

Most of the people I talked to said they thought it was really slow. Not just seeing less elk, but fewer tracks, rubs, sign, etc. Over the summer, there seemed to be lots of activity seen by scouting and trail cams. The bowhunters I talked to said there were more people in the early seasons (in the GMUs I go to) than they had ever seen before and really put some pressure on the elk. :dunno: By the time muzzy rolled around, seemed like they were still in hiding. When muzzy ended, I saw more deer hunters going in than I've ever seen (in GMUs that have real low deer harvest rates). The rifle elk guys that stayed the whole season were doing some fishing since the elk were being so slow. All I saw, early and late combined were a couple 4 pts, a 2 pt and a spike.

Definitely a great one.

Yes washington bull

Straight on at 15 yards. Ended up quartering three elk within 50 yards of each other opening day.
-
Bull from 2020 spot and stalk to 20 yards. Double lung and he fell down a water fall as he died ended up the worst pack of my life.

Sounds like an adventure! I'm sure it was painful and you still look back on it all fondly. Great work!

Why the big reductions in bull tags in the Yakima units ? Is wdfw still using resource allocation? Or are bow hunters becoming that efficient

Jerky

I think the efficiency of high power rifles on the winter range has more to do with it.

:yeah:

Jerky
:yeah: :yeah: :yeah: I used to hear how many he killed by himself, but I'm out of the loop now.
-
I talked to him one day up there, he was watching a herd with a dandy bull, during muzzleloader season, he had a modern rifle of course, said he shoots 10-15 per year and sells the horns and makes jerky out of the rest, he said hes completely legal.
I said ya kill em until they are all gone bud, cya

Well then at least crop the bow out of the picture...

Good observation. Blood looks more like an archery wound to me too.

makes me sick, and he’s full of crap, it’s against tribal law to sell elk and deer, at least it was. He’s killed much more than that in the past.
