A few years ago I went with Kuiu’s pack system and have enjoyed use of their rifle holster that connects to the side, enabling me to hike about hands free
and never worrying about my gun rolling over the shoulder. That said, not every hunt I go on requires the need for that specific pack as I use a more day style pack and hike with my gun slinged over the shoulder like most.
My question - does anyone have a strong recommendation for a “hands free” style sling, such as Mystery Ranch’s system or other?

Try sewing a large button onto the shoulder of your coat, or top of daypack strap to prevent sling from sliding off your shoulder.

I've had good luck with LimbSaver's Kodiak Lite-Firearm Slings.

I have the Claw Rifle slings on all my rifles. the are very comfortable.
If I want to go "hands free" with my rifle on my shoulder, I disconnect my pack chest strap, and run my put my chest strap over my sling. Holds the sling perfectly in place between my shoulder straps so I can use my hands.

I have also sewn a button on my pack shoulder strap, it is just enough to keep your sling in place without being intrusive.

on the mystery ranch quick draw, I just youtubed that and its a big fat nope! :chuckle:

You can also add a velcro strap or buckle, to your Day pack shoulder strap.
I usually end up McGyvering the heck out of all my packs. I keep bins of various buckles and straps and carpet thread just for modifying my packs.

I just front carry mine like a 2pt AR tactical sling.
I zip the sling up tight to my chest, the gun comes up very quickly, and I use the sling to stabilize. Its like a v-tac with a stretchy part so you can punch out.
Only draw back is you can punch a longer barreled gun into the mud, so wise to cap it with electrical tape.
Pretty much never sling it over one shoulder.

I’ve got something called a “sling saver” that I found in the bargain bin at a local gun shop. It’s a plastic piece with a hook and a Velcro strap that attaches to your backpack shoulder strap. Works pretty good and doesn’t get in the way.

When you want hands free simply run your pack sternum strap under your rifle sling.

I use the kifaru gun bearer and like it.
