Ever have it happen to you?

Yeah, they are usually running too fast to photograph though.
I saw three small 6x6’s that walked up about 30 yards from a guys truck, I think he was taking a nap. 15 minutes before shooting, they walked away, then he opened his door at shooting and probably had no idea they were ever there.

Yeah. That has been the case many times. Although hard to watch them walk away it's always fun to see. The bad part is hearing others pull the trigger way early before shooting light.

I don't remember that I've ever been sitting waiting for light to take a big game animal... I've had it get dark before I could get a shot off, but I can't recall waiting in the morning.
Ducks, on the other hand... almost insulting! Swarming from 30 min before to 10 min before, then...

dont get me started. i was once sitting in my rig watching 3 shooter bulls, big bulls, and gamie was watching me staring at his watch, i was staring at my watch, 5 minutes before time the scumbag starts his rig and turns his lights on, herd gone. :bash:

I’ve heard shots as early as 6am at entiat opener! Absolutely ridiculous

I got into a clear cut 3 hours before day light. Wanting to beat a herd of elk to the spot. They came in 2 hours before day light and were walking within 15ft of me many different times. I had elk everywhere! There was 3 or 4 legal bulls and I could shoot cows too. Day light starting to slowly creep in and I can see elk plain as day, I could see color it was so light out. but still not enough light to see my pins. Legal shooting hour finally comes and still was not light enough to clearly see my pins through my peep sight.
I needed maybe 10 more minutes. And of course a Green Diamond worker drives right down the side of the cut and blows the whole herd out!!

Yup.. watched a 4 point walk over a hill 5 mins before light one time figuring I’d sneak up there and find him again but he disappeared to who knows where.

First day of first year of hunting - got circled and likely winded by a (huge buck in my mind) deer in the pre-first light forest. I'll never forget hearing that animal circle me, though I couldn't see it outright. Later had a cow elk walk up to 10 yards of me, look at me, I wave at her, she drops back down the trail hidden, then moments later comes up and looks at me again and decides it's time to use another trail up the hill. Pretty good first day hunting in my life solo hunt. I'm sure I did a thousand things wrong, but still came out of the woods smiling.

My first elk ever i had a 5 minute wait... longest 5 minutes ever but as soon as the time hit i let one fly.

I've seen that more times than I can count, minus the deer :chuckle:

About 10yrs again, I was riding my bike in behind a gate.
No lights, I could barely make out the road.
Going down hill at a fair clip, I nearly t-boned a good sized buck.
He busted off to my left as I swerved right.
He went into a small lake/ pond. I was able to stop and get out my flashlight.
Just in time to see him get out on the far side.
Big bodied 3x3 from what I could tell at 100yds in the dark.
Now I wait until shooting light to start riding, unless I have a specific spot I need to be by then.

2 years ago going out to my bling almost 2 hours to shooting. Had to cross an open field. Something caught my eye out bear where my blind 2 was setup. Got some glass on it and there sat a 7x7 feeding not 30 yards in front of my blind. I had him on cam for over a month only at night or very early morning. Tried finding a way to get to the trees for him not to see me. 30 minutes before shooting he starys walking off into the woods. I try making some cow calls to get him back but he was gone. Why didn't i go into the woods for him? He walked right into the water shed so no go.

Yea biggest buck I’ve seen in my lifetime as I’m walking to a cut in Appleton. We stared at each other for what seemed to be an hour but just a couple minutes probably. Then he bolts and I never saw him again. Great moment though.
