Title: Double Down on Gear
Post by: WapitiTalk1 on October 15, 2019, 08:05:54 PM
What is the one piece of extra/double gear you always carry in your hunting pack?  I’ll start :). I always carry two headlamps. You cats?

I also double up on lights. I also have a knife in my pocket and one that never leaves my pack.

Always carry light weight rain gear.....always.

In colder conditions I always carry puffy pants and jacket that pack down to nothing and weigh nothing as well.  If you combine puffy under rain gear you can live through very cold wet conditions.

Two lights are a must as well with extra batteries....though I can live without light.

I am famous for always having way too much crap. My day pack is probably 25 pounds. Always have 2 knives, 2 headlamps and 2-3 lighters.

Sounds familiar  ;)  Do you also carry a couple of fire sticks for emergency fire starts?

Find a good fire starter and you will stop carrying that many lighters.  Zip cubes are the shizzzznit.  I carry two zip cubes a lighter and a striker.   You can light anything on fire with the zip cubes.  We use 1/4 cub for most of our fires so I carry enough for roughly 4 fires.  They weigh nothing.

Double lights, batteries, and 3 bic lighters in small ziplock baggies in three different pack pockets. What are the chances all three will get wet, and Fritos, they are great fire starter, when I don’t eat them, LOL.
Knives, one straight and one folder (Gerber Wave)
GPS and a compass.

My pack is about 21 lbs, with loaded pistol and full 72 oz bladder.
