Novice hunter and WSU student here,
Recently spooked what would've been my first ever deer that I've been looking for since I last saw him while scouting back in August. In hindsight, walking towards him along the ridge of the draw he was in wasn't the best idea (and I had the wind to my back to boot) :( I doubt I'll ever see him again on the local land I've got access to so that brings me to my question:
Should I hunt SE WA near the mouth of the Grande Ronde? (I'm somewhat familiar with the area but those hills mountains look mighty tall)
Or..
Should I hunt NE WA around the Metalline Falls area? (Only been there once during late season last year with no luck)
Not looking for anyone's spot, and I'm willing to hike into the bush to get away from the road hunters. I've only got this weekend to hunt unfortunately (grades come first :P)

Hunting country you know adds exponentially to most peoples success. If you are measuring success by notching a tag that is.

Whitetail are as different in the Metalline Falls area to those in SEWA as a Lincoln penny is to a buffalo nickle. What experience do you want?
-
I’d hunt mule deer now and whitetail in November.

Look over harvest reports for both units to see which will give you the best odds.

Tippy, near the Ronde I've only seen Mulies.
Are you targeting a Whitetail?

SE in Pomeroy. Easy to get permission from folks and there are plenty of Mulies. I shot a white tail opening weekend, but it was the only legal white tail I saw all weekend.
