Title: Shimano Stradic 2500?
Post by: Commando on October 20, 2019, 07:44:50 AM
My local sportsman’s warehouse has the stradic 2500 on sale and I was thinking of picking one up. Is it big enough for steelhead , silvers and the occasional king? Would be putting 30 lb braid on it as well. Thanks

Absolutely. Great reels. I used the smaller one I think they were a 2000 back then for years. Very smooth drag and stout reel.

If you can, get the 3000. Same reel as the 2500, just a larger capacity spool.

I was looking at the 3000 but went back to get it and they were out already...

Shimanos are the only spinning reels I use,
for river fishing...
I don’t see the need for 30# braid?
For casting and visibility, fluorocarbon is the bomb.

We’ve never snapped a mainline using 15# p-line,
and landed quite a few 20+ kings and 12+ steelies

If fishing the salt, it’s down rigger  fishing for me, with a level wind Abu 5000s mostly
Loaded with 30# braid, but that’s for trolling resistance, not capacity or strength.

Off topic:
I also use 200# braid for my downrigger ball lines
Allows me to use 5# balls with very limited sway. And a high level of sensitivity.

I love mine ... use it for everything really

Probably the best statement for the Shimano Stradic 2500/3000. I've used mine from bluegills to salmon.

I'm currently upgrading all my Stradics to the CI4+ version. 1000/3000/4000 reels. Will use plenty of braid as well to detect light bites, add capacity, and aid in keeping my the line off the water when bobber fishing.

I love shimano  as well. I got a curado 200 hg k last year. It made me a believer in shimano. Still getting it dialed it but have caught a few salmon on it and love it. Slowly up grading from my old abu reels. Just got my first drift boat so I’m trying to get supplied.
