Title: CO Bull
Post by: jetjockey on October 21, 2019, 06:02:23 AM
The bad news is I won’t be filling my deer tag this year.  The good news is I got my bull opening morning before the storm rolled in and pushed us out of the backcountry. It was only a little 5x satellite bull that I almost passed on, but knowing the wether was coming in, and it would probably be my only shot, I took him.  It sucks to plan all year for a trip only to have the weather blow us out of camp, but that’s hunting.  Last thing I heard was 16” of snow on the ground and more coming.  We would have been in trouble with the horses packing us out of camp.... Edit.  I’m not sure why the bottom picture is flipped, but that’s what a forecast of light rain looks like at 9500ft in the mountains of CO.  Who only knows what a forecast of 10-12” of snow looks like. 🤣

Congrats! Nice looking bull. I like the old saying "any elk is a good elk!"

Sad news is an 86 yr old man went missing on Sat while elk hunting.  With the weather, I’m not hopeful for his survival.  The weather ended up being WAY worse than forecast. I’m glad we got out, but knowing someone's Father and Grand Father most likely didn’t, kinda takes the joy away from our fun, but short trip.

I’m over here pretty close to where that old man is lost. The weather never really hit hard around here so maybe he’s still got a chance. Good job on your bull. The elk have been few and far between in the sw units. Thinking about packing up and moving further north to completely different area. Nice to hear someone had some success so far.

May we all be so lucky as to leave this mortal coil on a hunting trip...
