So what’s your go-to blacktail tactic in this nice stretch of weather for the last week of modern rifle? You’ve got sun up to sun down out in the blacktail woods, how are you hunting it?
-
Find big steep reprod to glass Into. If I can get within 700 yards im a happy camper!
-
Find a small patch of grass in the reprod, be still and quiet while waiting until the sun is getting low enough to start casting some good shadows.

Yikes, I’m gonna have to knock off about 400 yards of that.. lol..

Haven’t blacktail hunted in a lot of years. But if it was sunny I didn’t even bother.
-
I typically like to get in and hunt the timber, but didn't have much luck today. Didn't see a single deer this morning.
-
Climb up in one of my tree stands in a thick brushed core area and hope today is the day. I’ve harvested more bucks in nice weather than nasty weather. Can usually hear them coming too. This is my favorite week of the season, good or bad weather.

Find them sun tanning :dunno:

Hunt em at the butt crack of dawn and the last 1/2 hour of legal shooting light.

The pre ruts starting to pick up....there movin all day...seen 5 bucks today, don't go in at lunch

I'd be sitting 1st hour after daylight and an hour before dark and probably still hunting to try and jump a buck during the rest of the day. The rain and wind helps us be quiet but you may just have to go even slower than the 3 steps and glass drill. If I could find a clear cut that I could watch an opposite hillside and it had good cover, I may sit there all day depending on the sign and deer I've possibly seen there before.
Lastly, if I happen to have found a rub line this season, I would be sitting with the wind in my face watching it from daylight until dark. Eventually, he's gonna show up during daylight.

I'm not sure there is a right answer, but I'll be glassing reprod Mon - Thurs.

This is all great advice. So I think I’ll watch the clearcuts the first hour or two ready to pounce. If nothing pops out by 10:00 am I think I’ll still hunt either the timber or some reprod in hopes of a close encounter. I’ve got 4 days to hunt sun up till sun down this week. I’m determined!

I’d suggest sitting and binocing till eleven, harvested and have seen a lot of mature bucks between 10-11.

11-2 is golden, does get up to feed from the morning nap and the bucks follow  to

Well of course closer is better. 😁

As already mentioned, glassing reprod. I like finding a spot where you can see the ends of ridges out of view from anywhere else. Today (and most days) I found deer bedded in the brushy corners of clearcuts along the tree lines. My daughter killed her first buck, a nice 2pt bedded at the base of a big stump at 1:30pm. They love that soft rotten material.

I preferred the middle of a newer clear cut when I'm not paying attention method today.

Not a good situation for a deer hunter. The deer will feed and move at night. You might be lucky enough to catch then at dawn and dusk shooting hours
-
First 2 hours of am hit the clear cuts , try to jump them throughout the day with taking breaks at spots to glass for them moving and last 2 hours sit on a cut

Thanks for all the replies.. glassed up a few does the last two mornings on the edges of clear cuts, but no bucks to be found for me. It’s 11:40am now and I’m slowly working through some reprod that’s fairly okay to navigate. Had one deer snort-wheeze at me, then bailed. Never saw that one. Gonna continue the still hunt and hope to find something bedded down in here. There’s tons of trails and beds all over in here. An occasional rub on a Xmas tree here and there. Thanks again to all you BT pros for the guidance! It’s greatly appreciated. !

Keep after it only takes one man

I went up Wednesday and found a good reprod and glassed it for the last two hours of the day. Didn't see anything. When I packed up and was headed home I saw a nice 2pt buck standing along side the road. >:(

My tactic is getting busted by does sneaking up to a cut to start glassing. It is *so dry* out there right now, everything is loud. That said, once you get into position, as someone else mentioned: the deer are quite loud too. I got busted off a heavy 3pt at 165 yd by the doe. He never even looked around, just followed her right out. Tried for 4 hours to locate, but they'd moved into an inaccessible basin (would've had to push through a quarter mile of steep cut debris).
