anybody her use blackthorn 209 in their muzzy ? how do you like it?
-
I tried it earlier this year. I had a Remington 700ML that I converted to a 209 bolt and breechplug.
I made a few shots with it. Chronograph didn't show much diff in speed over my T7 FFF powder.
It was easier to reload. Same amount of smoke.
Cleans with Hoppes instead of soap & water.
Any other ??
Because of price difference, I'm going to stay with T7

I tried it once and couldn't get it to ignite consistently. I have a knight with 209 primers. Supposedly due to having to compress the load very well each time.
777 goes boom every time and kills elk dead, so I went back to that.

I had good luck with it. Used it this year and got my deer. Easier to and much less cleaning than before. I was using in a T/C that I got this year and 209 magnum primers. Never had a misfire. I like it.

I tried it in a CVA Optima with Blackhorn breech plug,CCI primers,Hornaday Great Plains all lead, and Leigh saboted bloodlines . Out of approximately 30 rounds I had 1 "weird" ignition (this was with the all lead bullet) . it went off but very short delay and only seemed like 1/3 power there wasn't a bunch of unburnt powder residue and I know I didn't undercharge it so.. :dunno:
It is cleaner but I didn't think as clean as described by some . Same amount of smoke which I had also heard wasn't the case .
Overall I would say its fine mainly the cleaner part . But Im not completely sold on it yet especially with the price and buying more solvent for cleaning :twocents:

I've been liking it. Seems to be real consistent for grouping. I go about six shots before a quick bore swab at the range for loading ease, but don't notice shots walking.

I use it in my knight 52 cal disc extreme and like it. I use cci magnum 209 primers with zero misfires. Still smokes but less and clean up is way easier.
