Title: Cooper Tires
Post by: 92xj on October 29, 2019, 02:22:29 PM
Discoverer AT3 XLT 285/75/18   vs   305/70/18 Discoverer S/T MAXX
putting them on a 2500 Diesel.

Anyone have experience with either of these tires?
What kind of tread life are you getting out of them? (what's your vehicle and towing much)

I run the AT3 and get about 40k out of them. I know a guy with the MAXX on his rig, he will wind up at 30-35k out of them but they are NOISY!!!

Call me tonight after about 6:30 and I will give you a little tire pricing tip.

Just put a second set of Maxx's on my 08 Dodge 2500 tire eater 3 weeks ago(295/70/17). First set had 50k. Best tire I've ever had on it and noisy would not be a description I would use. I run them at 60psi all around, drop them to 28 in rough stuff for a great ride and rotate them every 5k.

i had a set of st maxx on my last truck (tacoma) (10 ply)
they were heavy and i could feel it, but you shouldnt notice that at all in your truck.  i did love the tires though.  they were amazing in the snow, and were fairly civilized for a daily driven, highway driven truck.  probably the most aggressive AT/MT crossover tire you can get.

I am on my 2nd set of ST MAXX'S, on a Tundra Crew Max.  LOVE them!  Got 57k on my 1st set, rotating every 5k miles.  I live at 1,000 feet and get lots of ice/snow in the winter and they do absolutely great.  I too would not call them noisy, even if the radio is off.  My next set of tires will be them as well.

Liked the ST MAXX but went back to duratracs as I believe they are a better cold weather tire

Thanks guys.  Right now I am leaning towards the MAXX.

I currently have 285/75/18 Open Country A/T2s.  The tires held up to a ton of abuse and I never had any issues with them but I only have 23k miles on them and they are pretty much done.  That's an expensive tire for not many miles.  They rode great, towed good and I got the mpg I expected.  Going to the 305/70 will only increase the height by under .5", width a little more, so mileage might go down a tick but I think my gearing will be fine since I am ok with it with the current tires.

I didn't see this until now, we got caught up in the kiddo taking his first steps last night, so the evening was spent walking around the house before bath time and also after.  I don't plan on making the purchase until February or March; I will talk to you before then for sure.

Had AT2s for the last 2 sets on our 3500. They lasted a while, but I after the first 20k I didn't like driving them during the winter. We just put the MAXX on about 2k ago. I haven't noticed the road noise. Had them in the snow already. Liked initial results. Pulled trailers to Boise several times no issues. I'm prepared for a little trade off for on road vs off road. Fuel mileage is down a little, but expected. Cooper had a rebate and I was able to get the local shop to match Walmart pricing, so it was a decent deal I thought.

On my 95 F250 I have a set of Cooper Discoverer AT3. I love them, ride nice and they are quiet. Got 22k miles on them so far and they should go at least another 22k if not more.

For what its worth...

On my 2010 4wd Colorado with 17" wheels I have Cooper Discoverer ATP....I hate them, too noisy. I've got about 32k miles on them and they should last another 20 to 25K miles...unfortunately   >:( There are days when I'm going down the freeway and i want to just pull into the nearest tire place and get rid of em.

I also have a 4wd s10 that's my daily driver. Since I might be getting rid of it in the spring (its got 237,000 miles and i own too many vehicles) I didnt want to spend a lot on tires so i just recently put some Cooper Discoverer M&S snow tires on for the upcoming potential snow driving season. They were like $78/ tire I think. I love them! Quiet, ride nice and tons of grip.

I've got the st maxx in a 35x12.50 on my f350. I love em so far, only have about 8k miles on em though. I dont find them noisy, but they are louder then a straight at.
Your more then welcome to come take em for a spin if you want to hear em before you buy.

Discount on gage matched internet pricing on then for me too!

What internet site are folks finding the cheapest price?
I'll use that same store as it's by the house.

Discounttiredirect.com is usually where I look first. Especially if you're getting wheels too. They mount, balance and ship for free.

Discount Tire has earned my business with their customer service and price matching. Have yet to have a bad experience from them.

Tirecrawler.com and tiresize.com are the 2 I was shopping. Cant remeber exactly who had the best price, but discount beat it.

If your going to buy new wheels, pay attention to the carry capacity on them. Its possible to sell yourself short on capacity really easy with aftermarket wheels.

tirebuyer.com is where i've been using.
they always have rebates, free shipping to installer, AND their price includes replacement warranty similar to the one schwab offers for more money.

Oh yeah, tirebuyer.com not tirecrawler.com. though tirecrawler is cheap too, the overall package seemed better at tirebuyer
