Who's out trying to fill their westside quality tags ? Curious what everyone is seeing ?
It's been pretty slow for November so far not to much for rut activity . So far I've seen 4 legal bucks but nothing bigger than a decent 3x . I've only seen one buck chasing a doe but unfortunately he wasnt worthy of hanging a quality tag on this early in the game
-
I haven’t seen a single deer in a day and a half in the green river watershed. Still early.
-
Wow thats too bad about the watershed, keep after it they are in there.
-
A really nice alpine BT was taken out of 418 yesterday. I don’t know if he was rutting or not.
-
Been trying to help my wife with her 448 tag, but cant seem to find her a buck. We have been hunting wherehauser land and not seeing much, I am going to try scouting some lowerland spots this week and hopefully find something.
-
I'm trying to help my wife with her 667 tag.
Been kinda mixed. Not seeing a ton of deer. Seems too warm too early
Got close to 1 buck yesterday she probably would have shot, but he wouldn't hold still. :chuckle: Only saw a spike today.
Rain would help. As dry as everything is it makes walking almost anywhere tough.

Look at miles 19 - 21 it might have changed over the years but that has always been a good area for deer.
-
Got a quality deer tag for the skokomish archery.
Saw nothing yesterday. 2 does today and 2 bucks. Got a shot at a 2x2 but missed it was at about 70yards and I shot right below it.
It’s odd to see nothing out hunting then come back to our cabin in mason and find 10 does chilling in our acreage with a 2x3 and a 2x2 right behind the does.
-
Thursday Friday should be awesome bt hunting.
-
I’m hoping they hit full stupid....I mean rut. haha
I got one more hunt the wife says. Got to work all week so I’ll be out Saturday morning first thing roaming the skokomish. If anyone’s got any good spots to go let me know. Hoping to tag my first buck ever after hunting 7-8 years getting does

My wife has cow tag in there we have seen two great buck's one was bedded 30ft off mainline this evening with 3 does. Its a matter of time good luck.

Things typically get really good and fired up around the 6th . That and the coming weather should make BBD action

Hopefully the successful hunter will post it up, I always appreciate a good 418 alpine buck. Congrats to them.

It was “about 70 yards”?? :bdid:
-
70 yards is a bit further than I would prefer to shoot but if you practice to that distance its ones choice.

Yeah, have no problem with it. It’s the word “about” that is not comforting.. great way to wound an animal. 70 and 74 yards is a large window at that distance.

Nothing wrong with a 70 yard shot with modern archery tackle, practice and consistency.

Ya no one misses with a rifle or muzzleloader.
-
My mistake was I didn’t range find the deer before I shot. I max out at 70 yards with my sight. I practice a 60-68 yard shot all the time and am very accurate. Enough poundage and practice makes that shot work.
There’s a guy I see all the time who shoots past 80 all the time. He practices that shot a lot.

I'll be curious to see how this years crop of Quality BT tags go. There's plenty of nice bucks around, and the blue bird weather at the end of the general season helped a few more make it through I would bet. I've noticed a trend though the last few years in that when these big bucks hit peak rut during the permit time frame they tend to lock down on does. If they're not moving, they're awful hard to find. It's not until close to the end of the permit time frame that they start cruising again looking for un-bred does. Thats why the late buck season can be so good.
Good luck to all tag holders, I hope everyone kills a wall hanger.
-
I know some of those late permits are just 4 days or so.
-
Any day now 🤞
-
10 buck tags in the green river watershed. Not 1 deer killed yet...
-
Last couple days have been pretty slow where we've been in 667.
A few deer at first and last light; nothing in between. Another spike; rest does.
-
Interesting,
Just because it's a Quality Tag, no one has posted a pic or mentioned getting a mature blacktail yet. Just because you put in and get drawn doesn't mean you stand a more than 10% to get lucky to get a real buck.
Scouting
More scouting
More & More Scouting....Then....
Find (1) decent buck....Maybe....Just Maybe (2)....
Get lucky, find him....
Then actually get a shot !
.
-
How you susposed to scout the watershed when they only allow you entry for 6 days?
-
Hit up past tag holders
-
Find does and stay with them and they’ll show you the way

Things are starting to pick up in 505. I took a 2 day break from hunting and got back after it today. seen a total of 9 deer 4 where bucks and passed on 3 of them . The 4th one was so far out I couldn't have sealed the deal even if I wanted to. One of the bucks I passed on was a mature buck the had some freaky unicorn stuff going on . I didnt get the best look at his left side cause I was focusing on decided if I was ready to be done hunting or not. But ended up letting him walk although I probably should have done the area a favor and culled him before he has his way with any doe's . This bucks right antler was close to 16"spike with 6" base and a small fork up top. There wasnt much of anything on his left that I could see through the scope. I did happen to pack in a trail cam with me this morning and decided to set it up hopefully I can get a pic of the unicorn buck.
-
Not the buck I was looking for but I took this guy on 11-2 with my late tag. I couldn't help myself when he walked into my scope.
He wasn't full blown stupid rutting, but definitely was on the move. Got him in the old growth, passed up a smaller buck about 30 minutes before this guy. It was a very enjoyable hunt.

Looks like a good solid buck to me and a excellent representative of that tag
-
Congratulations, nice buck.

:yeah: Looks like a fatty. Reincarnation of my "dead buck" that turned out to be not so dead. Congrats!

Well yesterday evening I ran into the old unicorn buck and after taking a real good look at him I decided to stick to my rule of never pass on any mature buck. I'm not much of an inches guy but I do enjoy big high scoring bucks as much as anyone. But it was obvious that this buck was old and well into regression so I decided it was time to fill my tag. Very happy to harvest him and no regrets or shooters remorse even thoughI had my hopes of notching my tag on one of the larger heavy 4x4's in this area.

Thanks. I had passed on 10 other bucks after hunting the same area for 5 days . I was seeing alot of pre-rut action but the full blown caos of the peak rut has yet to happen .
I apologize on the pics best I can do with a cell phone balancing on my EXO mountain gear pack

Was only in there for a day, but couldn't figure why it would be in the "Quality Deer" category. Never saw a deer and didn't see much sign of deer. Some rubs in a few areas and some droppings here and there, but that's it. Looking at the harvest stats seems to show the same. Looks like folks are shooting the first buck they see, if they see one.
-
Hunted green river watershed it was a tough hunt. Seen 14 deer in five and a half days. Seen 3 bucks two medium size two points and one nice sized two point that my step son shot on Thursday. He was locked on a doe in the timber. Seen lots of fresh rubs just not a lot of deer movement. This weekend would have been great.
-
Yes this weekend would have been great. Hunted in the green river watershed for 4.5 days. Seen about 20 deer and 5 bucks. Nothing big. My son shot a medium size 2x3 on Thursday afternoon. Seen an old timer that killed a pig. Think only 3 of the 10 buck tags were filled as of yesterday.
-
Did the guy drive a Toyota Tundra. Congrats on the buck.
-
No. A maroon f350 crew cab.

Nice job man. Way to get it done.

According to the board in the guard shack only two bucks were taken out. You guys saw five more bucks than we did. We saw a lot of elk and two small bulls, nothing I’d want to use a quality tag on if I waited years for that elk tag if I had it. Oh well, this is how it goes sometimes.

How big of buck did the old timer kill pretty sure I talked to him Sunday in there?

A nice 3x4.
-
That’s a good one.
-
The place looked like it held some nice animals but the setup doesn’t seem conducive to hunting them. Certainly not to picking and choosing.
We were in and out though so only saw some of it. Looked like a fun place to be in September.
-
Very nice buck. I bet there running around in there now with this rain
-
Spent all morning in the skokomish unit and didn’t see a single deer. Was my last day to hunt archery for the quality deer tag. Was disappointed in the amount of deer I did t see.

-
Dont know why it came out sideways ,good hunt she made a great 100 yard shot ....he was with one doe.

Way to make it happen - good for her
