I have a two CZ 527 Varmint model 17 Hornets, they're a great little gun, lot of fun to shoot and they shoot pretty darn good with factory ammo right out of the box. The feeding on the CZ 527 17 Hornets can sometimes be a little finicky but once you learn the tricks to cycling the bolt, mine feed perfectly fine.
I've had a Sav Bmag HBSS for a few years now and since getting my 17 WSM Bmag, my 17 HMR hardly ever gets shot. The 17 WSM is definitely the king of the rimfires and only cost slightly more than the 17 HMR ammo.
They 17 Hornet isn't all that loud to begin with, but shooting these things suppressed, they are crazy quiet and soooo much fun to shoot ground squirrels with.
The 17 Hornet ammo definitely cost more than the rimfire ammo but it's reloadable or you can save your once fired brass and sell it to recoup some of your money.
I had a CZ 527 Varmint in 17 Rem for a brief period but even though they're a nice little gun, the 17 Rem just didn't do a lot for me and once you get to that size case, I much prefer the 20 cals better so I sold it.

Anyways I lost a few coyotes as they left no blood trail and didn稚 seem to drop them in their tracks. So I switched to head shots and it worked great. I think I would go with one of the center fires or something with just a little bit more than the 17 HMR. I did like the gun but I have never bought another one.

The ruger might need a little twinking, trigger, bolt shims and such but shoots great. A pound of powder goes a very long ways.

For what it's worth, I personally think they're a little light in the arse for coyote sized critters and unless you are keeping your shots fairly close and you are spot on with your hits, IMO there are much better choices. But, if you are looking for a fun little gun to shoot that isn't all that loud and has next to no recoil and you'll maybe use it on a coyote if one happened to be passing by, the little 17 Hornet will serve you well.
If you think coyotes will be your intended target on a more regular basis, I'd go with a 204 Ruger over any of the 17 cal centerfires, but for a fun gun to just mess around with and shoot ground squirrel size critters, the 17 Hornet is a really fun little gun.
The 17 Hornet is a big step up from the 17 WSM and there is NO comparison between the Hornet and the 17 HMR. I really like my Bmag 17 WSM and for high volume cheap shooting, particularly on sage rats where you can shoot 1000+ rounds in a day, it's my #1 go to gun, BUT, all of the 17 WSM rifles can sometimes be hit or miss on how well they shoot and all non match grade rimfire ammo can sometimes be the same way and there can be a good amount of variance from Lot to Lot.

There is a couple things I don't like about the 17 Rem though; if you have big paws...reloading sucks! Also, brass is hard to find. I had a really good shooting upper on an AR, and sold it because I hate brass catchers on a calling rifle, and so I lost more brass than I found.
Love all the 17's for Sage Rats!
