Title: Buying a new Tahoe. Dave Smith or somewhere esle?
Post by: 300rum on November 19, 2019, 11:20:09 AM: I am replacing my Wife's Tahoe with a new one. It will be a cash deal. I am just wondering if I should just go to Kellogg and find the one we like? Are they truly no haggling? Or should I look elsewhere and try to haggle for a better deal? What do you think?!

I was happy with the price and experience. During negotiations the rig that I wanted came up as a one day only internet deal for a few hundred less than what we had negotiated to. When I realized that I offered them $200 less than that for trying to sell it out from under me and they took it, said it was a clerical error.

I have tried twice to buy from those crooks each time that "one advertised" had sold by the time I got to Kellogg...Again I live 1 hour away.. Bull. But both time they had a nice model for just a few grand more. Bait and Switch.

And in my experience they are crooks and don’t stick to their word. I know some people have had good experiences there. In dealings with sales staff and management alike they have been downright dishonest.

I’ll be spending my money elsewhere.

Might be a little trickier with new vehicles (not sure the warranty transfers country), but otherwise it was pretty simple and I saved thousands. Worth a look, especially as a cash buyer.

If you want new and the warranty that comes with, you might be better at home.

Dealers don’t make much money on individual new vehicle sales. The money is in volume.

They came to the Spokane airport picked me up and had paperwork ready when I got there. Went on a test drive and one of the tires had a shake from improper balance and sitting in a field for who knows how long. Took a while to get through the shop, but I was on the road and home to western Washington by 10pm. Saved more than the Costco program, and as far as some local dealers, they are not as friendly as Dave Smith! Just my :twocents:

Neither experience was a pleasant one, and I was ready to buy with cash both times. I ended up at Seaview Buick GMC and bought my new GMC Sierra 2500HD at a price that was virtually the same as Dave Smith. My advice would be to shop online. We have bought our last 5 vehicles since 2004 online.......and you skip the annoying salesmen that way, as well.

I am a firm believer in driving every vehicle I am interested in. And it definitely payed off this time.
Then after driving all (except the two that sold before I got there) I ranked them in the order I thought they deserved. Turned out that the second best price according to True Car, was the best of the top 10 in driveability.
They know where their vehicle sits in the "List" price wise, they do not know where it sits in my ranking of the top 10 in driveability. I used that against them to get a little lower price, then held their feet to a decent trade in. I even offered to split their $400 processing fee with the Salesman, knowing I saved a couple thousand on trade in and negotiations, I was comfortable throwing a small bone to the Salesman.
I was in and out with my new truck in an hour and a half, and did not feel too slimy after working with the dealers.

I’ve got a buddy that’s a finance manager and they jokingly call the internet sales team the “profit reduction department”. I shopped that way on my last truck, got a better price than the Costco program was offering.

Same thing happened to me. Was quoted $33k on a new Ram half ton by the salesman, showed me all of the rebates and how he came to that price. I walked away and checked their website when I got home. The same exact truck was listed for $2400 less online as an “internet special”. All in all that pice couldn’t be beat by anyone so I ended up buying it. Over all I had a good experience at Dave Smith, other than the price confusion and the pushy finance guy trying to sell warranties. I would definitely keep and eye on their specials page online and make sure you reference the ad with the salesman.

I complained and they gave me additional grand off for my wasted time. Had a new sales crew that was not what i had grown a custom too but O/A, tough to beat still...

I've never had a bad or good experience, always just middle of the road. However, the commercial side is a different animal.
