Stood in line for a chance at a left over MS elk tag, and had already bought a eastside archery. Could have saved the $180, but didn't lose points. :dunno: Placed my cards on late archery in the snow. Solo hunt. First kill? From a stand? Can I make it happen? Snow looks like a guarantee. Had to come home for a few days to process my late season WT on a MS tag. Packing for return trip and planning on being at camp for entire season. My year has revolved around this opportunity and goal.

You haven't seen my camp. ;) I stockpiled 2 years worth of firewood this summer. One winter if I get snowed in and cant make it out. :yike:

Chasing game all season while camping in a warm and cozy tent being able to gaze at the supremely still expanse blanketed in a shimmering coat of snow. Pinch yourself every so often so you know you aren't dreaming.

Decided to leave late yesterday. Pulled into camp 9 hours later just after midnight. Between freezing fog and fatigue it was a long drive. I had hoped for more snow, maybe the first skiff will turn into something. Not seeing the sign and camera pictures I was hoping for. Praying for more snow.

I can't tell you how many times I've had elk hitting my camera's 3 or 4 times a day, think it's a sure thing, then go to hunt them and they're gone *poof*
Those elk will loiter in an area for a while, then move to the next area, sometimes of their own accord or sometimes because hunters/wolves/cats take one of them out or push them.
It ain't loggers though, they'll sit and watch a guy working equipment, get out, grease equipment, start his truck to leave and not care a bit. (hint hint)

He showed. One day late. Dollar short. Got pics...again. And huge wolf tracks. :bash:

I was traveling earlier. Hadn't been near a cell tower. Figured I had a chance if all the stars aligned. Bull showed late, and snow too crunchy to attempt a sneak. Spent a few cold hours in my stand. If the wolves don't get him maybe next year.
