Have a German shorthair I adopted over a yr ago. As my other gsp is almost 13. Was thinking of trying it there for quail or pheasant. Never hunted there wondering if it was worth getting the permit to try. Thanks

Pheasant would definitely be a waste of time for a first time hunter without some private lands lined up. That sport tanked long ago. Quail hunting, on the other hand is top notch. Now that is also because I have been hunting the rez for over forty years, know some very productive spots, and really know the habits of those coveys. Any freelancer with a good pointer will eventually find some singles scattered around, and even bump a coveys on the FFTH areas. I say yes, get the permit, and enjoy the hunting. I'll be bombing over for a day trip this week.

Great trip over with plenty of birds. Most unique hunt ever. South side of the valley, had multiple points on turkeys. They launch slow and the dog ends up on top of them, literally. Who'd of thought they would hold tight and hidden in brush like quail. Also had a run in with a bear. Odd trip

Ran into a farmer I know the other day who's family owns the land where I used to hunt a lot. Said quail are doing real good but hasn't seen too many pheasant or chukar.

I want to take my lab over. He's young and new to upland. Anyone willing to PM me a starting point or two? I know it's asking a lot but it can't hurt to ask!
