Loved it there. We saw it on our Alaskan Cruise 3 years ago. We were able to take a canoe across the lake to the glacier, we enen convinced the guide to paddel under a bridge type formation created by icebergs in the lake. 8)
The water fall at the lake is pretty cool to.
I love Alaska, it's a bit of Paradise for me.

LOOKS LIKE A GOOD HIKE
-
in '05 we did the cruise thing and took a helicopter up and landed on it, then hiked around with crampons and stuff for a while. don't think we needed the crampons much where we were at, more for the touristy effect than anything else i think. i looked for some pics but they must be on the other pooter.

Feel free to post them here. I'd love to see them. Did you ride Up with Temsco Helicopter's?
-
i'd love to post them but i can't figure out which computer we put them on. starting to think they are on a disc somewhere. i've been looking for them for a while now.
don't remember the name of the helicopter company, but we left from the airport and flew up, landed, wandered around, then took off again a couple hours later for some sightseeing and stuff. it was a cool afternoon.

i was there in sept of 08 and it looks like its changede quite a bit. i was up on a rock in a little inlet and there was a bear below me. the rangers freaked out and made everyone stay about 20 yards away. i went around a bend on a trail and he popped up on the trail. i thought it was cool some people freaked out. he had salmon on his mind that day not human.

I was putting log rafts together on auk bay in 07, and have never been in rain that cold . the glaicer is a spectacuilar sight for sure.

I use to live on Mendenhall blvd in the 80's and between Thunder mountain and the glacier calving it was hard to sleep some nights. beautiful country
-
Im surprised there are still glaciers there...the media in the lower 48 would have us believe they were gone!
great pics.

My wife and I took a hike on it a couple years ago.
-
It really was amazing to see
-
The helicopter ride was a kick too
-
The water was as you can imagine, ice cold but tasty.

Some of the pools were very deep and yes there really is a blue tint to all of it.
