So I've had 10 sets out for the past 10 days, 6 coyote sets and 4 coon sets. In the past 10 days I have had one snapped trap from a deer, one snapped trap from a person standing on it, one stolen coon trap and one bait stealer who dug out the side of my dirthole set, because I did not use adequate backing. Three coyote sets totally frozen in because I did not initially use waxed dirt. I could actually stand on them. Oops! :) So I set a second trap, in waxed dirt at the spot where the yote dug out the dirthole and connected this morning with a nicely furred female. Not very big, but on the board. I also got lucky and have been given permission to trap a little over 1000 acres, so as soon as deer season is done, I'll be getting busy laying some steel and setting some snares! I hope everyone has a fun, great and safe season!

 Nice start, Fred.

Good looking dog Fred !!! You going to trap some cats too ?

I am going to try and pinch a few bobcats, yes!

Another dog this morning. This set was put in 26 days ago. Nice male. Thought I'd add a before and after photo. :)

Are you going for wolves Machias
Eventually yes, can't wait to pinch a big ol wolf!
-
Lots of help over there for the wolves, check with F4WM, bunch of their cooperators have it figured out.

Yep, I've been a member for a couple of years and have had the privilege of chatting with several accomplished wolf trappers, really looking forward to being able to go after the Ultimate Predator!

Takes me back to my first fox, chain rattling in the dark. This would be another level up. This would be similar to walking up to my first bear. Nothing like walking up to a deer. :) I have a friend who described walking up and finding his trap missing, lots of wolf tracks in the snow, then the sound of chain rattling in the pitch black and then the unmistakable woof/howl of a big wolf. Scans with his headlamp and sees those eyes staring back and the breath in the cold morning. THAT, I cannot wait for!! :)

Fred, can I use some of your pictures for the magazine?

It's painful to see your posts.. How I miss using footholds.

:sry: I know how you feel, and I do sympathize.

Sweet thread and glad to see success!
I'm getting some traps ready this weekend and ordered 6 more. Got some permission to trap in what country so I'm excited to get after it again next week!
-
Good luck!!
Today I drove by one of my weasel box sets and the box was gone. Got out and checked and found it 10 yards away. Box was on its side, lid open, trap snapped but stuck on the side wall. Bait was gone. Set of coyote tracks walking up to it. Ok, game on! :)

-
Nice work Fred!
-
You are getting it done, keep em coming!
-
Looks good! He wrapped up tight
-
Man i wish we had an effective legal way to trap coyotes here. I feel like going out calling them for predator control purposes is like trying to dam a river with a screen. It is fun though, so theres that.

I am unable to properly run a wolf line and I prefer not to do it half assed. Next season.

Maybe I should set up a Wolf Trapping Go Fund Me page!! :chuckle:
-
Whew, a bit of a dry spell with all the snow. Finally connected on another yote in a snare.
-
Two dog night. They are moving good. Fur is ok on one, but pretty rough on the male.
-
Nice ! I wish we could trap coyotes here :bash: they mess with every cat cage
-
Young coon this morning. If I'd of remembered my catch pole I would have let this one go.
-
Nice ! Good color on it ! We got the yellow ting colored ones here
You get a water line out yet ?
-
I have a single beaver set out. Will get a few sets in this weekend.
I have permission to trap a nice property and found several mink boxes with 120 conibears in them along a stream. Contacted the Land owner and asked if he'd given permission to anyone else and he had not. So I was going to leave a note on the box and let him know he/she was not allowed to trap there, but no trap tag and he/she has not checked their traps for over a week now. So I called the Game Warden and he came out and removed three sets and left a note and his business card in a Ziploc baggie.
-
Dang !! We’ll hopefully you connect with a few and post some pics !! Water is still too high here
-
Small yote
-
Very nice !! You ever try the power ram snares ?
-
Nice work on the coyotes Fred! I pulled mine December and started hound hunting but just put some traps back out getting a wolf line started finally as well so far 1 skunk on new sets lol. Congrats again on the coyotes you have been steady
-
Good luck on the wolves!! The coyotes have been really vocal the last couple of nights.
-
Very nice !! You ever try the power ram snares ?
I have not, but would like to try them. I've watched some videos they put them down quick!

I used some snaring otter (been a while). Those things are dangerous, be careful if you get some. Be pretty easy to see someone losing some teeth if one of them got away from you.

Found some cool coon tracks on a frozen pond. The slush was still soft when they walked across it.

This set has been peculating for 2 weeks. Caught with a MB 550 at a T Bone set.
