Draw again! Being vocal and going toe to toe with the wdfw. I’m sure when my wild I’d pops up there is an algorithim that says redraw!

Such utter BS

Seen a gray/black no number helicopter pushing deer about 15 miles north of Davenport yesterday afternoon.
-
What is the problem? You don't think they should be counting deer?
-
In what ways are you going toe to toe with the department? I’d like to get more involved but don’t know what else to do besides fill out surveys, public comment and write emails. Let me know. I think there’s a ton of people who have had enough but don’t know what to do besides write emails and post on here.
-
Fly by, count ten, turn around, oh look there’s ten. Let’s do another pass....look there is ten. We are up to 30, that’s a good day. Now let’s multiply that by factor........
-

No, nothing wrong with the article, the gal posting it or even the gal counting. The impression they are trying to seed in everyone’s heads, we counted a 100, so everything is alright, hits a sore spot.
-
Only counting up to Mature 3x3???? That's all that's left?
-

Normally I keep my mouth shut, but I appear to becoming more and more vocal. I’m sure I’m on the radar. I wish I had the answers, I wish I could fix their stupidity. Kinda like watching the news and banging your head on the counter and hopping for Trump to pull through.

Ella says this population is generally doing well and holding steady.
Sounds like all is well, I'm glad they are on the case and ensuring a healthy population to sustain opportunities for hunting.
:peep:
-
So they drove around and looked at deer all day. Sounds rough. :'(
-
"Ella says this population is generally doing well and holding steady. However, things like wildfires, reduced habitat, drought, harsh winters, and over harvest from poaching can influence the population"
Classic vague CYA statement...
-
But Doug, "They are everywhere". It's on the internet, so it must be true.

IE: too many people, global warming, habitat loss, global warming and those evil poachers
no mention of predators

Do you belong to a sportsmens club/Organization? If yes tell them you want to get involved. If NO, then join one. Not all organizations engage the political processes as much as others. Many of these are Habitat based organizations that are well know the names to but dont engage the politics. SCI is probably the best national org on this matter. Most state/local Orgs engage and could use your help.
-
Imagine you were a retiring old school game warden who in their long and passionate career watched the decline and politicization of our wildlife. You'd write a book about it.
So glad I didn't become a WDFW game warden back in the mid to late 90's, I'd be crying now too :bash: :bash:
-
What do I have to lose....I guess I’ll add another comment

To be honest, which one do i join? I actively hunt the NE corner of WA and have issues the the current management strategy in this area. Which organization is actively aligning with my perception? A lot of those large organizations are awesome, but what are they doing that currently aligns with my passion?
Also, as a sportsman why it so hard to identify the organization that is actively promoting healthy ungulate populations in Eastern WA. I see we talk about it all the time here on huntWA but I often feel like we are just preaching to the choir.....with little actual organization. Is there any???
-
That is a really good question
-
Let me know which one is ready to get active with lawsuits. I get the habitat part and participate in that, but it's only one side of the coin. We seem to be really, really bad at the other side.
-
See I stopped the RMEF. I’m sure, that’s going to fire up,all sorts of peeps. I disagreed with their patronization of the tribe. I understand they don’t care about the opinion of one guy, but I wasn’t going to give one cent. My choice.
-
Nice to see that Bone. I too dropped them for similar reasons a couple years ago.
-
So they drove around and looked at deer all day. Sounds rough. :'(
I was gonna say... Grit and Parkas? Sounds more like Snacks, Gas, and Washer Fluid...
I grew up interacting with the Department of Fisheries. My Dad was a lifelong commercial fisherman, Great Lakes, Gulf of Mexico, then here in the NW. He went to the UW School of Fisheries, then back to the water before I was born. He had lots of the same sentiment as you, Bone... I saw it too when I went out on the water myself. Just not a lot of effort to do population census' wisely, a LOT of assumption and estimating based on nothing, and a TON of promoting themselves to the apartment dwellers in the Puget Sound basin.
Nothing has changed. The "Adventurous" job of a WDFW Bio continues to be the stuff of myth and legend....
-
I can't get much more jaded with WDFW than I am now, but then each new day seems to prove me wrong.
-
I gave up on DU because they are habitat based and dont get involved in politics... AND they have helped in the flooding of some of my favorite Hunting spots.
Im a Proud member of the Washington Waterfowl Association, and I have on my Christmas list a SCI membership. I know some sportsmen clubs are pretty involved. Inland NW Empire wildlife council out of Spokane (they put on the bighorn show) and likely others.

When you have an agenda, your consensus is always predetermined, to included determined for you on the outside chance you may try to think for yourself.
RMEF, NRA, WDFW, and even unions.......Dont believe anything you read or hear and only half of what you see. Lobbyists should be illegal.
-
I will tell ya how I feel.
I wouldn't give the dog crap off the bottom of my shoe to the biologist a WDFW.Its pretty straight forward that it's the same sad story (everything is ok,deer numbers are good).
They can't even see anything is wrong till where down to the last ten deer.OMG Its gonna take years to recover.Where did they count the 100 hundred deer at private back yards ,Man I can't wait for that opportunity next year.Honesty if they can't manage deer before we are in a ten year recovery period of no permits, limited season, and little to none opportunity, they should lose there job period.I don't get go to work and have poor job performance .
-
I'm guessing if these simpletons drove through Conconully on an average day they'd immediately declare there was 25 million mule deer in the state.

As long as they didn't leave the city limits. If they did, they would put them on the endangered species list...

Like anything, there are good and bad. I know one by me that does whatever he can to help hunters and then there are those that think driving a state truck on gravel roads is a hardship.
WWA is active, but they only have what members give them. Few join.
We should band together or write down the stories of what we have so we can tell our grandkids what it used to be like.

Notice they included everything EXCEPT uncontrolled predator populations.

I pointed that out in my comment. If it hasn’t been buried
-
Well i didnt read the whole thread. Got to the post i quoted and got a little angry i guess.
-
Lol, very understandable

I’m not sure how the format works. Mine might not even be visible. I do know the wdfw answered a bunch of them, but not mine

My :twocents:
Pick an organization. Maybe it doesn't matter as much as you think which you choose.
Go to the meetings and see what they are doing to pressure WDFW about what you see are problems.
If nothing volunteer to be that guy. If they are meeting with Department personel ask to attend. Nobody going ask to represent the Organization.
Something comes up ask WDFW for a meeting, go to Commission meetings.
Get to know the people (Commissioners and WDFW people.
If there is a problem go with solutions not just complaints. Best to go prepared and never get angry. You can disagree but calm and reasonable is good.
You too can lose your hair like me. :chuckle:

Most likely round filed. If something is important enough to e-mail them cc everyone you can think of, Director on down.

They wont answer questions that they cant come up with *censored* answers to.

I just read the article. Who really thinks 15 to 19 bucks per 100 does is acceptable?

Quite honestly the only way to change the direction is for all of us to forget the special interest groups to get degrees in biology pose as snowflake liberals and get hired in these positions that make the decisions. When wdfw is hiring individuals to manage and study these herds and they have no direct interaction with them in their personal life it’s just a job and statistics that mean nothing more to them then how many red jelly beans are in a jar therefore none of the data resinantes with them because they have been so removed from the subject they are put in charge of that they have no idea if 6 deer or 600 is good all they know is how that compares to a grid map split into binary segments split into section townships and ranges and as long as they get a rainbow grid of colors on a chart that they can pass onto other colleagues that have no stake in the game that’s all that matters. I don’t play tennis so how much effort and heart would I put into created newer and better tennis courts I hunt and like most of us that do we are passionate about it and want to conserve and protect it on a deeper level then the anti hunters that are managing could ever understand to much of science can be bias and based on personal beliefs and agendas depending on the angle one wants to take and if recreational opportunity and conservation is not a priority in their personal life it won’t be in their professional when I talk to other state bios it’s very clear why they are in the jobs they are and what they do on their days off going to be a hard fix working from the outside because the inside experts will always be more influential to the commission and director and places that can really truly make a change in managment it’s exhausting to watch and disheartening thinking once again in a few years we will be calling today the good old days get on the payroll and make a difference wait that sounds painful too
-
The snowflake liberals have been infiltrating wdfw and our state for decades now, and their takeover is all but certain. A handfull of hunters cant fend off an army of screwballs in any sociably acceptable manner.
-

50 bucks to 100 does is a more natural, healthy ratio. And dont forget to take age class into consideration. Under our cyrrent "any buck" whitetail rules, our age class is screwed up. We let people rifle hunt yearling whitetail bucks during the rut. Shooting fish in a barrel. Its disgusting.

I wonder what WDFW’s goal for the Yakima river canyon. Last weekend I counted 70 deer 4 bucks. 1-spike and three 2pts. No legal bucks. Sad

We can blame the bios or we can look at who they work for.
Most of us work for someone, try doing something that is 180 from what the boss wants.
Next time you line up for tags, think about where your money goes.
Don’t buy tags and be vocal. Find groups that have attorneys and join them.
All else is lipstick on a pig.

there are many more people who spend 10x the amount outside around our deer, elk, sheep, moose who have a better grasp on whats going on with our herds than any of these so called bio's.

Personal experience confirms that statement!!!
The next time I meet any of you, remind me of this thread/post, I’ll give you a couple classic examples....don’t want to air out too much laundry on here since I know for a fact those involved in my examples frequent the site, which as Bone speculates, would lower my draw odds from zero to negative figures. :chuckle:
@MtnMuley care to comment yourself? :chuckle:
-
I have written so many emails to the director I ve lost count :chuckle: I still draw tags :chuckle:

Negative emails go directly into the virtual circular bin, much like Clinton’s emails, out of sight out of mind. Open public forum comments are there forever, for everyone to see. I’m glad you are speaking your mind, but not quite apples to apples when putting your nuts on the chopping block for the whole world to read! ;)

Oh I have commented on many of their fb posts and proposals with comments

I figure since all my points are gone except for sheep and goat I wont draw here for a long time :chuckle:
-
Im not worried about permits, say what you mean, mean what ya say.
Always hunted without a permit ,not to worried about it.Its pretty sad that some of us are red flaged on permits cause WDFW mangement sucks.
-
Where’s trophyhunt?! He can’t draw an elk tag to save his life :chuckle:
Although he did draw a OIL this year
-
I'm giving them hell on this instagram post. Of course I triggered a snowflake :dunno:
-
Oh nice!

I think you guys give them too much credit. I think trolling forums or even reading posts isn't on the top of their list. I think the top people spend their time:
1. Responding to Governor's requests and then from the legislature.
2. Responding to the myriad of legal battles currently ongoing.
...
...
...
175. Seeking input from hunters.
For big game hunting, it really isn't a top or even mid level priority. Orcas, wolves and brown bears are all that is actively managed. For big game, do a drive by count if you can, guess if you can't. Plug the number into a spreadsheet and get the number of tags they will issue. End of story as far as management is concerned for 95% of the state.
Then, we line up to buy tags and draw applications, gripe a bit and send them our money which reinforces the fact that we can get hosed and won't do anything. So, they are back to the #1 and #2 on the above list.

Yep, me too. It was the tribe thing for me.
