All you score experts, did he hit the magical number? How wide is he?
-
Measured off the main beam, no.
Measured off the outside of the g4, yes.
-
Nice deer. Looks like Yoda raising the x-wing from the swamp!
-
I’d say 28 but yeah that flare maybe.
-
Have to agree with Bone here and say right around 28" mark.
-
29 7/8”
-
For reference this guy is 27 1/4
-
25.5"
But it's only an opinion.
-
Based only on that 1st pic I’d guess 27.
-
29
-
Widest tip to tip 30”.🤔
-
28
-
Lotsa time to measure after the shot. A shooter in my book all day long ;)
-
One more reference mounted one is 28”
-
This buck my daughter shot was exactly 28 inches wide (outside measurement). I would guess the buck in the picture somewhere between 26-28 inches. Hard to really guess with just limited pictures.
-
26
-
26 ... score is always by inside spread not outside ;)
-
Inside 25
Unfortunately his mains look short, so he’ll likely get a 22 spread credit. :twocents:
-
30+
-
26 with a stretch
-
I’m pretty sure he was more interested in outside spread than inside spread.
-

correct, maybe I wasn’t clear, greatest outside spread
-
With those tilted out G4’s I’d bet he is pushing 30

Sorry most refer to inside because that is what you get credit for on score, outside doesn’t count towards your score so not something most are even going think about.
-
I guess I shouldn’t assume, typically when guys are talking about width of mule Deer they’re thinking outside greatest spread. Even though it’s not part of total inches, it is one of the measurements in the scoring process. When people talk about a 30” buck they are not talking about inside spread.

However, the OP did ask people that know about scoring...
All you score experts
Which is why those that are good at “scoring” muleys chimened in with their :twocents:
And just a FYI, outside spread is NOT... one of the measurements in the scoring process.
-
Yeah sorry about that when asked a width I always think of inside.
Line C on a scoring sheet can be confusing because it asks for a greatest spred and line D is your inside spred AND this is the starting point from which your spred credit comes from. Spred credit is only equal to and not to exceed longest main beam anyway.
Also on the sheet is a tip to tip measurement this along with The greatest spred have nothing to do with your end score.
When I had a buck scored last year by a B&C scorer I asked why those columns are in there if they are not used and he said they are kinda more for fun and to get an idea of the overall frame size for reference more than anything.

I'm pretty sure when talking straight up spred most are talking outside spred. In fact I I don't know very many people who would give inside spred if you weren't scoring it.

The magical 30” mark for mule deer is definitely not referring to the inside spread

that’s right, my fault for not being clear on what I intended. I guess I expected that everyone would think like me. Lol

Not a big deal the OP actually mentions “score” if you go back and look at post #1 so I was just explaining why I initially thought of inside ;)

Not trying to find your spot or anything but I saw a trail cam picture of deer that looked strikingly similar and surprisingly it was in Rimrock unit. Was this guy in Rimrock?
-
Unfortunately it’s frowned upon on this forum to share gmu info about our game animals. I heard a lot of flack about a big bull elk in the Colockum that I shared so all I can say is it’s a dandy buck that stretches over 30 inches.
-
I'm less excited about his spread, but those eyeguards are NICE. At least from what I can see in the pics.
Is this a buck on your hit list? already on the cue?

I understand and am sorry you were treated that way on your other thread. On another note, I never see big bucks in Rimrock so it was cool to see the trail cam picture I referenced.
-
I was putting him at or close to 30 at a glance. Over is always good.

:yeah:
Look like they could be big scimitars! I love that look!
-
I see Mark and his minion out their wink face on, everybody I know, when asked "how wide" guess outside.... But the studs do the "score" width....😂😂
-
Ide say 32” max
