Not sure if there are many 5.7x28 fans here but I just watched a youtube video of the new Ruger 57 5.7x28.
I have a FN Five Seven so I don't imagine I'll be purchasing the new Ruger57 anytime soon but if I didn't already have my FN I'd probably give this new Ruger a hard look.
-
If they bring out a carbine that uses the same mag I will have too have a set.
-
that's sure alot cheaper then i paid for my fn. The more i shoot it the more i like the round. Will be interesting to test those new bullets he was talking about. I tested the fn ammo and the american eagle ammo and the vanguard ammo. Be curious to see what the new one will shoot through.

I have an AR57 complete upper with mags I'd sell if someone wants it.

I really want to try one of these out.
-
It was the only handgun ammo on the Sportsman Warehouse shelf a few days ago.
-
Glad to see the 5.7 getting wider appeal. I am not out of the closet, yet. But I am curious.

The ammo can sometimes be a little expensive for these 5.7x28's and you can really burn through it rather quickly if you shoot it much. Keep an eye on Palmetto State Armory, they run specials on the FNH 40gr Vmax ammo every so often and sometimes it'll even include free shipping. A couple years ago the had it on sale for 16.99 and free shipping so I stocked up. They had another similar sale awhile back.
These 5.7x28's aren't the easiest thing to reload for so I don't even mess with reloading for mine.

I’m interested in your brass if you have saved it. ;)

I generally don't save any my pistol brass, sorry.

I was wanting one to replace my .45 as a woods carry gun, but it sounds like that's not a good use for it. Cool pistol, though, I ike it.

It was either that or start a new one. Now people can discuss both the Ruger and Rock in the same thread. ;)

How impossible would it be to find ammo or components?

Factory ammo isn’t as cheap as it used to be, but it can be found.
Components are another story, although this round is not fast and easy to hand load. ;)

I am surprised it has taken this long for a 3rd company to jump on it

I have had my Ruger for a little over a year now. Absolutely love this pistol. Have had zero issues shooting every brand of ammo I can find. Amazing accuracy. My only issue is the price of ammo these days. As far as reloading goes. This thing flings brass all over the place so unless you shoot somewhere you can find it good luck. I lose over half that I shoot.
-
I did a little reloading but stopped for now. I load for about 25 different chamberings but this little round is very easy to load to dangerous pressures so I get nervous. Additionaly the brass has a coating on it that i understand comes off with abrasive tumbling techniques and I have not set myself up for ultrasonic cleaning.
I do have 3 gallons of spent brass waiting for me when i am ready to start though!

They have a lacquer coating to help with feeding, do not tumble them. Even ultrasonic cleaning needs to be watched carefully. ;)

That ‘Rock’ looks like it would be interesting. From what I have seen on the reloading, the coating is not really needed for the Ruger, so some take it clear off and do not have issues.
3 gal of brass?!?! Wow! That is a LOT of those little cases!

I lucked int a deal with a metal recycling guy a few years back. Bought all he had. Paid like 8 bucks a pound.

CMMG makes some very sweet Uppers, for $1000+ It better shot 0.5 MOA with “factory” 5.7 ammo, :chuckle:

This is one I can’t wait to try👍

I’ve got the Ruger 5.7. Nice gun, very accurate.
Downside is the trigger reset. I’ve taken up the slack of the trigger safety but didn’t pull then released- it sometimes then clicks and the trigger safety will not depress again unless you rack the slide. Really like the cartridge and the pistol otherwise.

22+1.
FAR too dangerous for a Washington citizen.

They do make an after market trigger for the ruger. My dad put one in his and likes it.
