I’m starting a little slow this year ! But with the koro trap for marten is a little trial and error had a marten break the cable and never found so I’m changing to chain with a swivel which I think is s must do
Finally a good check tonight

Absolutely!! Specially since the second was in a set you helped make ! I think it gets really good area past where that one was caught maybe another half mile further in
-
Ron and I went up and set some marten traps after the big snow

In a hours time of making one set and the last making our way out we found where a marten crossed our trail and checked out a box which we think we scared him off the set

Ha ! Ya I’m feeling it after today . Got 2 more short marten lines out today and nothing moving cat wise at all and that kinda sucks but we’ll see what happens
While setting castor mound sets at a nuisance beaver job I got to watch this guy (63lbs) work a set and get caught

Pretty cool Jake, btw I’m getting you a selfie stick

Thanks buddy I appreciate that ! I’d probably lose it the first Day already misplaced 2 sets of pliers this season

Nice job!!
-
With breeding season coming quick, there ought to be a lot of movement in the next 30 days or so.
-
90% of all my cats are caught in January! Toms get more worried about the ladies then food
-
I was talking about the beavers, but, yep, Toms will be on the prowl.

gotcha !! Lots of beaver but the cats aren’t really showing themselves maybe with the deep snow up high finally they’re going to get pushed down
-
Nice otter and rat today

teapot ? My main bait is a BIG chunk of beaver with some castor for scent in the cage . But cats have weak noses so hanging a duck wing off of a limb with fishing line so it flutters and swings is key and on that wing I put western cats cane killer gell on it and whewww it’s got the aroma
-
Should have said live trap

Caught a really orange colored female this morning! Not really what you want for selling but really pretty

-
Do you sell them or keep them? I'd have a hard time selling the first 2 or 3. Or 20.
-
I’ve been sending everything to market but last years and this year I’m keeping until the market is better
-
You can really see how pale orange this one is
(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200209/510c45997dadcdf2278f31f4a2ccccc6.jpg)
-
See?
-
How are you keeping them? Skinning and freezing?
-
Ya I’m skinning and freezing for now in the beginning of March I’ll flesh and board everything I’ve caught
-
Jake, how are you attaching your koros to your boxes?

Ok what’s working for me on holding the koro in the box is pressure. 4” from the back of the box I staple a 1/2” thick lat stick down then put the koro snugged up to it and staple one in front of the koro so it’s got “squeeze “ pressure against the trap
(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200226/bc506ba18603e13863af663ff89b9568.jpg)
I can set these boxes straight vertically on a tree and the trap stays put and when it triggers on a critter it comes loose they swing out and it’s worked well for me
Hopefully this helps
Jake

Side note with the civit trapping
(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200226/ba89de7a26873c253f54ca21a1e8ed10.jpg)

im all about trappng and body gripping traps etc and dont want this to come off as a "policeing" comment. but how is this legal in washignton, or is this in watshignton and if so, how do you get around the "death traps" or body gripping criteria. technically isnt a mouse trap a body gripping death trap? according to the law isnt trapping mice technically illegal. i just want to find a loophole around this trapping law
-
It’s legal it’s a koro rat trap

No problem asking questions is how we get answers!!
-
Thanks for the pictures Jake, they makes it very clear. I have all mine stapled down but have had some experiences that make me think having them loose after the catch would be better.
-
No problem! But make sure get rid of the cable and put a chain and swivel on
-
Almost guaranteed that civet was eaten by another civet.

Nice job, what you using for the weight?
12” long piece of 3” pin stock ! Small and compact and works really well

Looks very handy and compact! Do you make them or buy them and if so, where? :)

i make them you can go to any major steel vendor and buy a 8 or 10’ length then cut down to 12” and just weld a link of chain to it . It’s pin stock for bulldozers and excavators
