I am bring to you some pictures and a short story of a hunting experience I had in 07. this beautiful 5x7 was taken in the blues by a hunter with no ethic nor skill! I viewed this deer get shot on some private land ajacent to the land that I was hunting it ran across a road and decended in to a draw/canyon not a very big one by my standards. I lost sight of the deer but proceded to view this hunting party atempt to locate this deer for maybe 45 min. before I guess giving up on the search, they got on they're atvs and road off. later that day I ran across these great hunters on a road not to far for they're land and asked them if they had found/went back to look for this deer they said no it didn't stop he must have missed! to make a long story short I went and looked the next day and found it late that afternoon not 400 yds away from where they stoped looking. I thought maybe the meat might still be good so I went ahead and tagged the deer and packed it out never did see those guys again DAMN! tobad the meat was no good it got to warm that day. but I got a nice rack now if I wouldn't have hung it out side! If any of you know how I might restore the look to the antlers I would greatly appriciate it.

Are they cracked or just bleached? There have been loads of different styles used to darken bleached racks on here, try the taxi area.

i seem to remember something about shoe polish and dirt that made them look dang near natural, do a search theres some posts on here

You can use a wood stain and then spray Def sealer on them.

Ask Bucklucky???

Oh nice heavey rack BTW funky how the one side grew and seemed to put most the growth into that split brow! cool looking though :)

That's a great blues buck. They've gotten scarce up there, especially on public land. Glad you were able to at least rescue the rack. I have used brown shoe polish before, but I have heard that adding dirt makes it look more natural.

Nice buck to bad about the meat being wasted.

Here is a buck that I arrowed back in 06. He has been sitting on top of my chicken coop until about 4 weeks ago. I just cleaned it up and stained the antlers. The antlers were bone white as yours. I used saddle/antler stain that I got from Van Dykes Taxidermy Supply. I sealed it with a clear, non yellowing, matte finnish. This might be a little too chocolate brown for a muley so I would suggest mixing with a little walnut color or black dirt.

THose look great Polar. Nice buck!

Nicely done Polar.
There are multiple recipes out there. Some have great results like Polars and some look like paint. I think Hunting Cowboy does a great job. He had a thread on here. I rarely stain but I did a set, big two point antlers and they turned out well I think. You can't even tell they aren't natural. I hate the fake look. I used the miniwax stain, and mud treatment and some steel wool. I'd hook you up instantly withthe recipe but I can't remember which one I used. I used the gel miniwax and antique something.

Here is one of my Bull's I did. I just used a dark wood stain. One coat and then use steel wool to lighten rub areas and then another light coat of stain. Then a coat of Deft sealer let dry and then another coat. You can make them as dark as you want. These were as white as yours.
