Title: Harvest Report Numbers?
Post by: Cylvertip on January 21, 2020, 12:29:48 PM
Just wondering if anyone has come across the totals for animals taken via trapping?  WDFW's info seems to only contain animals taken during the traditional trapping season.  I am wondering what the totals are when you include NCO animals too?

I pinged Ralph on this.  He said i would have to contact the Public Disclosure Section and make a formal request.  I also asked if there was some general ball park numbers he could share, even narrowed down to just beaver.  Sounds like they would have to build a database to crunch the numbers, that the info is not readily available.

So this leads me to the question, what if anything are they doing with the harvest data we are all required to submit??? :bash:

I'll be having a meeting in the next couple months about the upcoming three year package. I'll see what I can find out about this.

Remember if you don’t get a permit IE using cages a lot don’t get reported

It would just be good to have the information.  Especially for WCO's. At least reasonable ball park numbers.  It would help reinforce that the critter populations are thriving, especially when compared to the pre body grip ban numbers and the numbers we take today.  I have these conversations quiet often with clients, but it is with guesstimates.  It would help to have better info.

So I e-mailed Sarah and she was going to see if there was anymore info to pull up. I have not heard back.
My understanding though is all the WCO stuff and the Fur trapper stuff is combined on the Trappers Report of catch and so is lumped together in the Harvest Reports. I'm not sure about the Special Trapping permit reports and am waiting to hear from her.
I don't think they care so much about the number from WCOs. They are mainly interested in a total number of animals taken.

OK, I heard back from Sarah. I didn't gain a lot of information but It looks like I was wrong in that the WCO stuff is counted separately from the fur trapper numbers. There is some mention of this here https://wdfw.wa.gov/publications/02126
Only a couple graphs starting on page 387
Fur trapping numbers can be seen here https://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/management/game-harvest/2018/trapping

So a total of around 1600 beaver in 2018 when combining th tallies from the two reports.
Weren't we up around 16k a year pre body gripping ban?

When they changed their web-site they took the prior reports off-line. They have them archived but you would have to get someone to pull them out for you.

These agencies love to "archive" things. Basically it's just sweeping away information but it is there somewhere if they ever get subpoenaed.
These clowns have no idea what they are doing.
