2003 18ft Hewescraft sportsman on an ez loader trailer. Boat has a green canvas top on. Yamaha 80 main motor and a new Yamaha 9.9 high thrust kicker. Please report to the police if seen thank you very much. Boat was taken from twin lakes neighborhood by Decatur high school in federal way
-
Sucks. I'd suggest you bump this every three days kinda like a classified ad for the first week.
-
Thanks for the tip, My wife has it posted on multiple social media sites as well.
-
Rotten buggers! Nothing safe anymore. Watch the recyclers. The thieves will probably cut it up and sell it for scrap aluminum.
-
Wasn’t even thinking of the scrap aspect >:( I figured they were after the kicker :bash:
-
They take it all! Your motors and trailer may already be in another state and the boat may be chopped to chunks of scrap. Sorry to hear this! I had heard that a group of Mucks had a theft/scrapping racket going in the south end a couple years back.
-
Sorry to hear. Try also posting an ad on craigslist for a stolen boat. Craigslist has alot of people looking many places for boats and they continue to check back with the site while trying to find a deal.
-
man, this sucks!!! Out of curiosity, was it stolen out of garage? Driveway? Storage? Might be some words of caution that can be shared for the rest of us.
-
🤔
-
Man thats infuriating, sure hope homeowners extends to cover where you had this stored. Is there a way to search craigslist by state, or just region within the state? Makes searching tedious when you have to go through tacoma, then seattle etc
-
That's disappointing to hear!!! I hope you are able to recover it an some A**hole hasn't ruined it.
-
Aggravating! :bash: My flatbed trailer was stolen a few years ago while being borrowed. It was found dumped on the side of the road a week later, and the guy's jeep was found shortly after that.
Good luck on your recovery efforts. Pound the social media, that polished hull is gonna make it tough for them to keep it under the radar. If the detective assigned to your case isn't responsive, communicate only via email and always cc: their chief. It's ok to be a bit of a pest to the detective, no matter how trivial they'll try to make your case sound. Not sure how it goes in Pierce County, but I know that in Snohomish my trailer was very low on the priority list and they knew I had insurance, so they had better things to do. :twocents:

Search Tempest works pretty well - you can search a pretty wide range at once.

That sucks...I hate thieves..
The boat will probably show up dumped... generally they wont waste the time cutting it up. They take the motors and electronics and call it a day. The boat and trailer are Vin verified and attached to licensing so easy to id..the motors have vin's but generally people don't keep track of those.
Sorry this happened. Hopefully she's covered and you can upgrade her.
-
You should hound the police to view traffic camera's in the area around the time it was taken. Could probably get a plate number for the tow vehicle? Maybe that was stolen too- but, you never know. Hope you get resolution.
-
my money is that the boat will be found on a tweeker compound. Lots of them on Military Road S a few miles south of Peasley Canyon Way.
-
That’s horrible...best of luck recovering it
-
Sorry to hear. I will keep an eye out on CL.
-
The boat was parked on the passenger side of my truck behind the mailboxes and up against a rockery. They backed across my neighbors driveway and pulled it right up and over the rocks :dunno:
-
I would be checking with all the neighbors and see if any have cameras, that was not just random they cased the neighborhood for sure.....
Pretty *censored* to pull it out like they did...not there first rodeo

Was thinking the same thing.
-
Scott that sucks Im sorry to hear... :bash: :bash: :bash:
-
Do you have serial #s for the two motors? Check the adds far and wide
-
Apparently it’s in the Puyallup area someone was contacted by the person trying to sell the motors off it were trying to get more info, in the pics the person offered the motors sent me it was parked in a tan apartment complex
-
Be safe. Bring a video camera. Have 911 ready if you see the boat.
Post up pics to help identify the area, if possible.

Time is of the essence.

Show the pictures to the Puyallup Police, they have likely been to the apartment complex many times in the past and will recognize it by sight...
-
Great idea. If anyone has Puyallup PD contacts, this is the pic.
Pic of boat at a Puyallup apartment complex. Please ID complex if you can and PM OP ASAP.
-
Does that pic have location data in it?
-
My boat has been located and is headed to impound  luckily the tweakers hadn't had a chance to pull motors yet   Thank you very much for keeping your eyes open
-
Great news glad to hear

Outstanding!
-

No, it didn't.
-
Can I at least guess the apartment complex?
-
Wow, good news for once....now get a hitch lock. ;)
-
Cameras and an audible driveway alarm would also help
-

Hitch lock. I also ran a cable through my cargo trailer wheels around the frame. FiL called me paranoid. I did not have to deal with this.
-
Unfortunately, thieves can thwart just about anything these days. I bought one of these tongue locks and thought I was ******** in tall cotton. Then I came across this video. FML.

This story just reminds me of this song...
-
Shimming a lock is a no-talent hack. My oldest wanted a lock pick practice set for Christmas. It turns out that not much talent is need to begin picking locks.
-

No guarantee, I had two trailers stolen with a lock. A small one was cabled to the big one. They even took the cinder block the jack was on....
-
Well then let’s just leave everything unlocked since there is nothing that helps.

I keep my boat under covered storage behind a locked gate with tongue locked, motion alarms and infrared cameras
Do I still pay attention to it and stay vigilant
yes

I had a box of old combination locks I forgot the combinations for. After about 10 minutes of Youtube videos I had them open and had the numbers for each lock. Scary how easy it really was to do.
-
Glad to hear this outcome! Hopefully they don't come back for it again...it happens! Even if the trailer locks can be broken they force someone to spend time on them and may give you or a neighbor a chance to catch them.

Most important question is - did the crack heads get caught???
-
Yeah, really interested in the after action report. And I am pretty sure I found the apartments, but after I came back here to post, I saw that things were already under control.

So you found his boat on the internet for him? :dunno:
-

If so, theyll get a slap on the wrist and be out stealing more stuff in no time. All while spending their cash on drugs and getting their food, medical care, and housing covered by the working class.
-
Were the apartments off of 122nd St? The pic looked very familiar to me.

No. I sought his pic. Posted it here, started searching, then came back to post my answer, and found that he posted that the boat was found and impounded.
I'll let him fill the details in if he chooses.

The police called very shortly after the Puyallup Dept was informed it was in the area. Apparently someone called in a suspicious vehicle at Milwaukee and valley Ave in the Sumner area, From what I can gather they did not get the losers who took the boat but they have a couple of suspects >:( who will probably get a slap on the wee wee and continue living off the system and stealing everybody else's hard earned goods :bash: :bash:. Thanks again for everybody's help
-
Glad to hear you got it back, sucks it went to impound as you pay for that.
Like has been said, lock it up good, tongue lock to slow them down or cause them to look elsewhere, python cable through each wheel with large heavy duty pad locks, and or even remove one wheel when its parked at your house....
Lights, cameras etc

Can I guess the apartment complex, so that everyone in the area knows where to look for their stolen stuff?
-
You better bolt that kicker to your boat and lock it too or you will be buying a new 4 stroke kicker!!!!
-
Locks and deterrents are better than nothing. That said, they can still be picked. Still worth trying. I will say, be careful with your kickers. I've had 3 stolen, 2 locked and cabled and one welded. The welded one they cut right through my aluminum transom. Two out of my drive way and one out of a secured storage lot that also had two RV's/toy haulers cleaned out. I am lucky to be able to store in garage now but was always fighting thieves. Only thing that worked was removing everything including electronics. PITA but not nearly as much as replacing.
It's not your fault it was stolen but it is more common than people want to think. Glad it was recovered and man that had to be a sinking feeling. Even better it is still in working order.
-
Well I finally made to the impound lot to get my boat, let me just say the officers who recovered my boat sure made it sound like it was in a lot better shape then it actually is :'( I guess we’ll see how for insurance goes But at least the tweaked losers didn’t get to sell the motors. The only thing that saved the kicker was the locking bolt holding it to the transom.
-
Bittersweet but glad you got it back!
-
It would be nice if there was a centralized database of stolen boat engine serial numbers that a person could check before buying a used engine. Unfortunately, some people might not care if they are getting a "deal".
-
I saw you towing it home today on Main St in Puyallup headed towards 410. Hope you get it pieced back together ok.
-

Washington State embraces restorative justice. It means criminals get no jail time and they are considered the real victims.
The recent two shooters in Seattle had been arrested multiple times in 2019 and no prosecution.
-
Yea yet the prosecuter could not be found to answer questions why.

in some states don't you have to register your motor as well as the boat?
I know if i bring this up as an option, people here will start complaining about more registration fees, government oversight, blah blah blah.
but if it were a 10 dollar, pay it once decal type deal i personally wouldn't be opposed.
Once motors became 'traceable' it would (should) cut down on theft.

There is. Call the serial number into your local PD or SO and have them run the number.

Reading this thread kind of fills in the blanks of why my auto insurance jumped 25% in a year without any claims or tickets. The insurance company mentioned that they model risk by geography and all signs point to our part of the world not being on an upward trend.
