Anyone know if the elk at Oak creek are being fed still? Might make a trip over with the kiddos this weekend.
-
Curious about this as well.
-
Did they ever start yet ?
-
Started a couple weeks ago from what I heard on the other thread
-
OVER THIS PAST WEEKEND. ABOUT 200 HEAD IN THE FEEDING STATION, 10-15 BIG BULLS.
-
Stopped on the 18th and they had just started feeding.
-
Anyone been to the feeding station lately? Thinking about heading over tomorrow.
-
I was there a couple weeks ago. Very few elk. Hand full of big bulls.

Was there yesterday. Saw 1 spike. I think they are now an endangered species?
-
Dropped by yesterday right before feeding. There were 3 branch bulls in the field with about 50 or so cows. Then roughly 60 or so started filtering down from their bowl, including two more branch bulls. Didn’t stick around to see if anymore came in.
-
How many calves in the group over there? How is the recruitment looking overall?
-
Swung in to look about 5 min ago. About 200 head. Plenty of calves. Was actually surprised at how many are there considering the lack of snow. Welfare cases😂
-
1st and 15th they gotta hit the oak creek walmart and stock up
-
We stopped in yesterday as well. First time stopping for my daughter, good times.

did you guys get on the feed truck? That is a "must do" with the kiddo's if you've never done it.

Unfortunately we did not. Next time I'll certainly be calling ahead to get us on the truck.

Spikes are not endangered, just being selected genetically out of existence. There will always be a problem child or two around
-
Are any of you seeing any spikes? And if so how many?

I saw a bigfoot riding a spike one time, they were chasing a unicorn. :chuckle:

there's always a bunch of spikes leftover after season. It always kind of amazes me after the chaos of fall :chuckle:
-
Haven't been to Joe Watt this winter but last winter it was full of legal spike bulls. They are sneaky lil suckers :chuckle:
-
That’s great

Was there today for 1:30 feeding. Volunteer said yesterdays count 385 head. Last week 450+. Maybe 8 spikes seen. Two big bodied boys that have shed their headgear. Not many bulls but about 4 dandy 6X6's. The guy said they are cutting back on feed. Only one feed truck going out daily now and no ride along truck today. Big bunch of elk stayed way up on the hill and didnt come down at feed time.

lot of bulls never even came down very low this year and a good majority of the ones that did come down have already started back up. I glassed quite a few elk up around 4,000ft yesterday. Always a win for the critters when they don't have to fall back on man to survive winter even though it makes the viewing at oak creek a bit lame

:yeah:

I saw more spikes in late archery this year than I think I've seen in all my years elk hunting combined.

Still feeding 515 as of monday. Half dozen big boys still there sporting nice headgear.
