I am considering getting my '13 Powerstroke deleted. Any shop recommendations?

Most shops won't touch it because it is a federally mandated emissions system.

Illegal now, yes. What blows my mind is people will pay 80,000 for these trucks but wont spend 2500$ on delete and tuning. Yet that deleted truck is the one getting 12-17mpg and blowing by ya on the pass with heavy loads?? Hmm. I know I will just keep on trucking Vantage on cruise at 68mph loaded. 500hp is kinda fun as well. :twocents: Pyrometer required!!

As some one whom uses thier truck for work, I will keep my pre 2007 dodge Cummins till the wheels fall off. Then I will fix and bolt back on. 20k to replace the motor and transmission seems like a deal compared to the garbage that is out there now. Especially when you compare the cost of new.

It’s always been illegal, the epa is just recently stepping up enforcement. They’ve been putting the screws on h manufacturers. Pretty soon only epa compliant tunes will be available.

Ya, true. I have 06 Dodge. I bought it and it had a stupid tuner box on it Quadzilla I think? Ya could adjust/tune everything manually. Darn truck was making 46psi boost and I couldn't stop it. Maybe truck has head studs and injectors but I do not know for sure so I removed it. I had Anarchy diesel, tuner Phil write custom tunes for my truck. I told him what I wanted, what aftermarket parts/mods are done etc. He wrote up good safe tunes. Now truck will not exceed max safe boost psi, runs cleaner, responds well with the 6 speed manual trans and still has a go fast play tune. I have switch/knob with 1-5 position that I can just turn it at will and all is good. Optimized stock tune, heavy tow tune about 60hp, economy performance tune 90-100hp and a 140 play and a 180-200hp stupid tune. I run #3 most the time which is the 100hp. Tow with it normal loads and egt will stay in safe limits.Tpy hauler, dump trlr etc. I have used tow tune 60 with toy hauler loaded up in mnts as well. I keep egts below 1325. If its 1300 I don't worry and stay on it. Only downfall is no exhaust brake but a manual helps some. If I need it I would go with a Pacbrake exhaust brake with a stock/475 twin turbo set up. With this set truck is almost un touchable imop. Cummins are such good engines.

Not trying to start anything negative here but I don't understand that if Cumins are the cat's meow then why do they all need the tuners and add ons? :dunno:

Mostly because 90% of them people who have those trucks dont use them to their full potential and can get away with half tons, and maybe because you can do the same with a stock truck. 475hp and 1050lbs-ft of torque from a powerstroke without having to spend $2500 to mess with it and hope it works. Sometimes I think your fears about current diesels are stuck in the Cummins 2007.5 era. They’re not issues anymore. I worked for Dodge then. I’m aware of the issues. I’m aware there’s no convincing you of that, but if you’re using a truck like you say you do, you won’t have problems with them anymore. The problems stem from letting them idle too much and not using/working them. I know I won’t change your mind and I’m good with that.

Actually I do not think its safe for these new trucks to tow 35000lbs? I am stuck at 2007.5, the year it all changed! I am liking the new 7.3 gasser and that truck would probably do what I need quite well, except for mpg maybe! 400hp and 800tq is all I need honestly. I am old school as well so biased in the simplicity of things and in the prospect of doing the work at home...

They don't but if ya do it doesn't blow up like Fords did! Cummins has 33% less parts to break and is same design/tech as the million mile big rigs use. So that's about it in nutshell.

Right on. The MPG will be a huge downside to the 7.3. Still haven’t seen one in person. Weird.

Most places won’t even sell the delete kits anymore. EPA has been cracking down hard.

One of my city accounts and at least 2 of my construction accounts have stopped ordering trucks with Diesel engines at this point. Seeing more and more gas powered bigger trucks lately. F350 and bigger I mean. Mostly because of idle time issues and short trip/stop and go issues. Can’t shut them off in the middle of a regen and they don’t get driven far enough to go through a full cycle. If they see the highway or a load now and then they tend to be fine. One city account I have has a standing rule with their crews. Once a week the diesel trucks get driven 30 freeway miles to fully burn themselves out.

Full disclosure is we suck at selling trucks. Have not had a lot of success selling to fleet accounts. We do a good service business but the sales lags. That’s probably why we haven’t seen the 7.3’s yet.

Keep in mind with deleting it’ll hurt your trade in value. Private sale may not be an issue though. Dealerships can’t sell a rig that’s been deleted. They have to put it all back together first. They’ll take that cost off of your trade in

I'm not sure it holds true with the powerstroke, but deleting will cause engine to be very slow to warm up on the cummins, annoyingly slow.

I guess I really hadn't consider the negatives of deleting it as everyone always suggests to do it.
I am throwing an error code currently which is for the Diesel Exhaust Fluid Heater control. I figure if I have to put money into something I might as well open it up. I'm not overly concerned about the resale value of the truck. I own it and plan on keeping it until it dies. What are the other negatives of deleting it?
I am located in Bothell.

Turn your exhaust brake on or enable High idle (same thing in a factory EB truck)

Delete it and dont look back. I bought my powerstroke from a dealer in Oregon. It was already deleted.

Deleted my 02', 03', and 10'.
The new 6.7L are fine without or I've grown old.
Get it done and don't look back.

Or he needs to have a serious talk with whatever mechanic did it... lol

I was seeing the "cleaning exhaust filter" message come on way too often in my 2012 6.7. It seemed like it would happen about every 100-150 miles (new it did it about every 300 miles). My thoughts were that the DPF was getting plugged. My mileage was in the toilet because of this. I put the plates over the egr cooler, went with 4" downpipe back exhaust and tuned with semi custom tunes. I don't have to add DEF anymore and my mileage went from 14-15 to 18-20 mpg. I didn't do this for the power gains, although they are nice. I did this around 75,000 miles and have 90,000 on it now. I was extremely nervous at first, but I'm glad I did it. I did everything myself in my driveway in about 4-5 hours.

Im going to follow the same plan this summer. Just a delete pipe in place of the DPF, egr block off plates, and mild tuning. Im thinking no more then 100hp, probably more like 60 and ill be happy realistically.
I mean really, stock power has never left me wanting, I am just tired of the regen thing, and tired of fighting a DEF tank that doesn't take fluid worth a darn.

@jackelope it has 104k. Did that recall expire in 12/18 though? First I have seen of that. Would be nice if it could be a warranty fix.

An exhaust bp valve can be deleted. Exhaust can be freed up. I had 2001 f350 7.3. Tuned it with full free turbo back exhaust. Was a great engine but ran out of fuel injector uumph after about 425hp aprox. Trans are total garbage, get a manual...

That 12/18 part just means if you were over the 120k mark or the time when that recall was released, it would be covered till 12/18.

How often did your truck get out on the highway for a good 20 or so mile run?
I had a good mixture of town and hiway/freeway driving. I would see the cleaning exhaust filter message come on 3 times on our trips to our ranch in Idaho (thats 3 times one way, so 6 times round trip) its about 350 miles one way.
