Yes you can. It’s just going to cost you. I don’t worry about applying in NM, I plan on hunting it next year via landowner tags though.
-
Better odds than Washington....
-
not really, The permits for Non residents were cut way back a few years back. They Keep your money for an extended amount of time.
-
To hunt 280"-300" 6pt bulls, it definately is better than Washington. For 99.99% of the hunters anyway.
-
yea if your a resident

Or if you kick out the money. Land owner tags are readily available every year, and allow you to hunt the entire unit. My neighbor killed a 340” class on public land last year with a landowner tag. Grant it, the tag cost him $4500, but that’s the world we live in if you really want to hunt NM.
-
I wish it was that cheap for my unit. The landowner tag in the unit we are hunting go for that 6500-7000 range :(

I have put in New Mexico 5 times and drew 4 times.
Meanwhile haven’t drawn a tag in washington for 10 years.
This state doesn’t like me very much!
-
I just did my elk app this morning.
-
It's no different than most any other state. If you are trying to draw premium units get ready to wait. If you want to actually go hunt there are some pretty attainable tags.
-
The unit I am put in for has a 6% draw rate for Bulls and 330-360 is a reality with a lot of animals .... not great, but also really not that bad either...
-
The place is huge, almost twice the size of WA with a bunch of variation. Look around while down there. Farther between animals but a bunch of places to look!!!
-
I'm in this year, the good news is they post draw results pretty quickly, so by mid April we should know how it turned out.
-
In again this year, we’re pretty sure we’ll draw WY but if we draw NM, Wy will be out. Good luck too all.

I'm waiting for the last day so that it won't hit my credit card until the following billing cycle.
Hopefully I'll have the refund by then.

The boys and I are in! New Mexico has been good to us.

I went all in

So what would these two clowns want and do with our information? I don't think it was right of the courts to allow this to happen.
Courts Order Department To Release Customer Names, Email, Addresses Today
SANTA FE – A First Judicial District Court judge has ordered the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish to turn over the names and addresses of all successful big-game applicants for the years 2015 through April 23, 2019 to Los Alamos County resident James Whitehead.
Additionally, the New Mexico Court of Appeals ordered the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish to turn over the email addresses of individuals who applied for state hunting licenses for the years 2015 through 2016 to former Land Commissioner Aubrey Dunn.
Both decisions conclude that information collected from the public in connection with the administration of its public duties falls within the meaning of public records and are subject to disclosure.
In 2017, Dunn requested the names and email addresses of more than 300,000 applicants for New Mexico hunting licenses. Whitehead requested the detailed draw results, names and addresses of all successful applicants, units applied for and units drawn. The Department provided names to Dunn, but denied the additional requests by both parties. As a result, both parties filed lawsuits pursuant to the state Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA).
“The Department argued against the release, but ultimately lost,” said Director Michael Sloane. “We value the privacy of our customers’ personal information but recognize that is the courts' interpretation of the current IPRA law.”
The Department will release the requested information today and wants to make their customers aware. Individuals who believe they are being harassed by solicitors or similar as a result of this release should call toll-free (844) 255-9210 or file a complaint online at www.nmag.gov/file-a-complaint.aspx.

On the face pages it sounds like there's some interdepartment rifts happening in NM and allegations of improper draws, etc. From the outside I'm not sure if NMFG is the good guy or the bad guy in this, or if its just a muddled spat. I've read that they wanted to see who exactly was drawn and look for patterns and things. I guess we'll know when we get that first marketing call.
I've also read that the general disclaimer signed in those years included that our data may be shared within gov agencies.
It makes me mad (generally) when government agencies fight, because it is just profiting lawyers and not anyone that people wanted their money to go to. I also don't like crooked agencies. Neither is great.
I"M IN THOUGH! Timed my credit cards just right so that hopefully I never have to pay the $8k I spent, as long as I dont draw everything!
-
Last year was April 17th for the draw. Website says April 29th. I want to know which hunt I'm going to draw and then have canceled due to Corona! Lets go NM!
And... I need that refund so I don't have to pay them financing charges on the credit card.
Also, false alarm if any of you thought this bump meant the draw had occurred. :chuckle:
-
Funny I just checked before for I logged on here.
