Hey folks,

If anyone was drawn for Area 9 in Arizona and you need some starting points to find some real monsters, I have some info for you.  Also, if anyone has any info on Area 7E Arizona, I am looking for starting points, I was drawn for that tag this year!!!  Should be one heck of a September!!!!!

Take Care,

Well all i can tell yah from my experiance in arizona is to stay hi...

Areas:
7-E: Areas to scout out include the Hochderffer Hills, White Horse Hills, Saddle Mountain and west and north of Maverick Butte. Additionally, elk can be found in areas from Maverick Butte east to O’Leary Mountain. As stated above, with the current lower elk densities in 7-E, scouting prior to your hunt will be key in being successful.

Joe is going with me.  We put in together.  I am also going to New Mexico to call for the American Archer TV show.  So I will be going to Arizona, then New Mexico, then back to Arizona if we still need to tag out.

Thanks for the info folks!!!!

What unit will you be hunting in NM?  I hunted elk in 16A a few years back, and did a muley hunt in 17 last year.  I also tagged along in AZ unit 8 year before last, but still waiting for my tag down there.

I will be hunting on a landowner tag in Area 9 in New Mexico.  I don't know much about the place, a friend is setting the whole thing up.  I saw some pics of the place, looks like a great diversity of terrain, and some great habitat.  Should be a great time!!!

Very nice.  I don't know anything about NM 9, but looking forward to hearing about your hunt.  After hunting elk down there, I constantly debate whether I should stop buying licenses and building points everywhere and just save those $$ for a NM landowner tag every few years.

I pulle dou tof the Arizona draw this year.  I guess I have another year to contemplate it before losing my points.  I just got tired of giving them money for a hunt I'll never get drawn for.  I figured NM was just as good.

Hey wacous how did your hunt in unit 8 go?  I was down there last fall for antelope.

I was there in 2007 tagging along on my cousin's hunt.  I spent the first week with him...played with some good bulls, but it was just heating up when I had to leave.  He wound up getting a nice 350 SCI bull on his last day.  Actually was a tougher hunt than I was expecting.  The rut wasn't in full swing yet, so you had a short time each morning before they'd bed down.  Everyone sat water in the evenings, which isn't so fun when you don't have a tag.  My cousin hunted 10 days before tagging out.  A couple other bull tags in camp went into the soup bowl.  Sounds like that was a tougher year than normal, although the harvest % in 8 isn't nearly as high as 9, 10, 23, etc.

We saw some nice speed goats there.  I understand they take some huge ones out of that unit.  How did your goat hunt go?  I've got 9 goat points now...still a ways to go for a good rifle tag.

Agreed, it's pretty cool looking.  It's got an extra sticker or two, so was officially scored as an 8x8.  Can't say I'm not jealous.  Was a tough hunt, but he pulled it out on the last day within hours of heading home.
