So there's probably some odd food combos that are normal to certain families, yet strange to others.
My Mom used to scramble eggs into leftover pasta, still 1 of my favorite comfort foods today. The wife thinks its crazy weird and wont even try it.
I'm sure others have to have some odd combos too....lets here them.
-
Chili mac and pigs in a blanket for me. My wife thought I was crazy, I thought they were normal :dunno:
-
I crack an egg or two in my top ramen every once in a while and love it. It thickens up the broth and adds protein to an otherwise useless bowl of salt and carbs.

I like to add egg, chicken and corn. The kids called it Ramchickcornegg.

Sunnyside up egg on a plate of spaghetti. Wowzers.

crunched up ruffles potato chips in vanilla ice cream

Yum, this all sounds good. This thread is making me hungry haha

I'm definetly going to try this. Love me an egg on a burger so....
-
My step dad used to mix a pack of hotdogs, box of Kraft macaroni and cheese, and a can of pork and beans. Pretty good but my wife won't make it for us.
-
We're playing my jam here! I like canned chilie over Fritos, or over a canned tamale... and Fritos. Cool ranch Doritos in egg salad. Fried potatoes with onion and hotdogs all fried together

My favorite way for Ramen is to boil the water out. Well all the excess water.
Add enough water in the pan to cover/submerge the noodles (usually 1 cup instead of 2 cup)
Let it rip to a boil, stir, continue to boil until water evaporates from bottom
remove from heat and add seasoning and stir
Call it sticky-ramen because you get a blob

Mustard on toast
-
Mustard makes everything better!
-

Love sunny side up eggs in spaghetti sauce, especially duck eggs. I don't include spaghetti noodles though.
-
2 Things
1) I re-heat leftover spaghetti in a saucepan with butter and garlic salt. It's delicious you should try it.
2) My gramma's recipe. Pegge burgers. Browned grnd beef, mixed with mayo, chopped dill pickles and cubes of Velveeta on toasted English muffins, broiled in the oven until crispy on top...
-
That second ones got my attention
-
Definitely gotta fry ramen. Eggs are a must.
I crave weirdness in food. I lost my mind when mad cow came out and you couldn’t get brains and eggs at the Ox in Missoula anymore.
My fave show was Bizarre Foods. I don’t know about some of those eggs though.

My dad loves to eat thick cut fried bologna wrapped around Oreos...
-
2nd on the Frito Pie-
When I was a kid we'd cut the top off a small bag of fritos, dump the chili in, eat it right out of the bag.
-
Fried Spam and eggs, diced Spam and scrambled eggs together, diced Spam in Mac and cheese, Spam and Sauerkraut. Yes I like Spam, the wife wont even try it. :dunno:
-
Had on old elk hunting bud that did Mocha Dogs. Hot dogs in the morning coffee perk pot. Your coffee had the oily film on top and the dogs tasted like coffee.

Oh man thats filthy haha

Peanut butter on one slice of white bread, Mayo on the other slice and a thick cut slice of Walla Walla sweet onion in the middle.

Have a friend who loved potato chips and pizza together, I thought it weird, until I tried it.

My old man made that all the time in the winter...
-
Fried egg on Peanut Butter Toast.
-
I like dill pickles wrapped in Hamburger.
White bread dipped in catsup.
Saltines with butter.
-
Open a baked potato, grate a little cheese, slide on fried egg (I do 2 sunny side up), grate a little more cheese on top. Also good topped with chili. Sounds like it's begging for crumbled bacon, now that I think of it.
-
Make a pb&j like normal, then butter the outsides and throw it on a frying pan, toast it like a grilled cheese.
-

Ate saltines with butter all the time as a kid, forgot all about that one.
Grape Jelly and butter sandwiches,
and nothing better than a fried bologna sandwich

I suspect you step father was a child of the Great Depression. That used to be fairly common.

Ritz cracker topped with peanut butter and horseradish

Just about any leftovers! I will do a whatchagot dinner with all the leftover meals in the fridge, sometime do a whatchagot stew or soup. I hate wasted food!
My wife comes up with a menu for the week and then typically only does half the meals. I am left to come up with the other meals and I open the fridge or freezer n start coming up with something random. Typically my meals come out pretty good, by the opinions of my kids! Who knew acorn squash and sautéed chanterelles in clam chowder was undetectable to a 10 year old? :chuckle:

When I get the flu it is 2 slices of wonder bread, miracle whip, one slice of the cheapest bologna and one Kraft singles cheese, no substitutions. It’s what I grew up on but plenty strange to those around me.
I can’t remember the last time I knew someone that used Miracle Whip.

Miracle whip was my go to before my wife banished it from the house! Every deer season my grandpa and I would pack bologna sandwiches on potato bread with miracle whip and cheese.
As a kid I used to wrap a hot dog in a slice of a bologna and just eat it straight up. My dad nick named me “meat” for that one.
My mom always made spaghetti noodles with canned chili mixed in to it. Used to be her grandpas go to.

Miracle whip vs Mayo.... One of those things that you either love or hate one or the other. Myself, I use em both.
As a kid I hated salad, the only way I would eat it was smothered in plain old Miracle whip. :yike:
Another odd one as a kid, my daily school lunch always contained a peanut butter and white sugar sandwich. To this day I still have not had a PBJ.
-
Not really comfort food but sometimes I’ll have canned pear halves with a dollop of mayo and topped off with shredded sharp cheddar cheese.
Pineapple and ham grilled Swiss cheese sandwich.
-
Peanut butter and pickles on a tuna sandwich. Once you've had it this way the regular tuna sandwich tastes so plain.
-
Some of you have GOT to be joking :o

I forgot about that one, use a Pie Iron to make a dessert sandwich with pears and cheddar.

Change the mayo to cottage cheese and im onboard

I love some mac'n'cheese with hot dogs.

I have done similar, chunky salsa, your favorite hot sauce and and crunched up spicy cheese-its. Burns so good

egg noodles with peanut butter and just a normal burger with peanut butter

I was just reminded by the wife my dad also has a strange fetish for what he calls " Eskimo D***". It's a Polish sausage hot dog, inserted into meatloaf, that's also wrapped in bread dough then baked.
-
Grilled cheese with raspberry jam on it. Sweet and savory

Your talking my language now, I’ll have to try that! Lots of peanut butter ingredients for a lot of you guys, interesting.

The Costco Special.....
Polish dog inserted into a chicken bake wrapped with slice a pizza... every good thing Costco has to offer at once.
-

Cook the meatloaf first or put it all together raw and then cook?

:chuckle: Insertion is the lynch pin to this whole dish.

Had a mess SGT on a little AFB that I was stationed at (Army) that did a great B&J omelet with maple syrup over the top at midnight chow
-
Fried egg on Peanut Butter Toast.
:yeah: That’s a staple for me.
I also crunch up Doritos, or Fritos, or Jalapeño potato chips and put them on my salads to spice them up.
-
Mine is Skippy Super Chunk peanut butter and dill pickle sandwiches.
-
I will alot of these and one that is missing from my childhood and current is Pancakes made with creamed corn instead of milk. Wife and kids hate it but I still make it once a month or so and always at hunting camp with my brothers.
-
Make a big batch of Chocolate Chip Cookies sounds basic right? Wrong, don’t cook them. Game changer!
:chuckle:

Are you guys sure you're not pregnant?

:yeah:
A college staple for me was to cook up a package of ramen (typical Maruchan $0.15 variety), throw in a half package of frozen mixed vegetables, mix/melt in a few large tablespoons of peanut butter, and then finish it off with a bit of Sriracha. Came out with a big bowl of something resembling a southeast Asian soup. Hardly a cheaper way to go.
Later on I would fry up two eggs over medium, throw it on a plate, then dump a can of warmed up chili on top. Melt a bunch of cheddar over that, and there you go. Hunger taken care of, and everybody leaves you alone at work next day.
-
My Grandma use to make us brown sugar and butter sandwiches when we we good, :chuckle:
-
Mine is Skippy Super Chunk peanut butter and dill pickle sandwiches.
:yeah:
My mom started me on them in about 1962, but we used Adams crunchy. I still have one every month or so.
-
Ketchup on cottage cheese
Don't ban me from the site til you at least try it 😂
-
Mayonnaise on cold pizza. Family thinks I'm nuts and I tell them it's got all the fixings as a sandwich. Bread, meat, cheese.
-
I can't look away from this nastiness :peep: ya'll are some sick puppies.
@elkboy 's Huevos Rancheros sound good though.
-
We’ll do the Nalleys chili, eggs and cheese for breakfast from time to time. I call it white trash huevos rancheros.

I’m on it! There was a BBQ place in Granite Falls (not open anymore) that served a giant baked potato with baked beans, pulled pork or brisket, cream cheese, cheddar cheese and a bbq sauce of your choice on top of the potato. Guaranteed to put a sleeper hold on ya.

Good lord how did I miss this thread?? @Southpole, you have some amazing mixtures! As for the rest of you not so sure about some of those gastronomical delights! Peanut butter and fish just do not go together for me, adding eggs to stuff sounds good, and I am a mayo guy, will eat miracle whip if it is the only option.
V8 juice and Beer with an old fashion doughnut is one of my breakfasts of choice when ocean salmon fishing. Guess I am not as wild as some of you hahaha
-

I take my smoked salmon shred it by hand, mix it with a block of cream cheese, then roll it in shredded sharp cheddar, and eat it with wheat thins! Delicious!!
-

This one is so good, I started growing my own jalapeños and making my own jelly out of them. People look at you like you are crazy until they try it. No where near as hot as it sounds. It’s really apple jelly with some jalapeño in it.
I pickle garlic with a slice or two of jalapeños in it. I can sit around and eat half a jar of that.
-
Thanks RB :chuckle: ! Some of ya must think I’m a stoner, but...no. Had a few nasty hangover though.
Okay, Lipton cup of noodle cream of chicken, corn and at least a couple tablespoons of butter and lots of salt, heat and eat!
