Specialized but a little more than $2000 I don’t think Rads are mid driveYep, rads are hub driven but do well for most terrain around these parts. Its hard to beat their price point. Bolton ebikes makes some pretty good upgrades for the rover to get it closer to the mid drive torque performance.

Weight they’re 1/2 at about 35-40 pounds instead of 70-80pounds and they have normal size mt bike tires but as the rads and rambos they do not have a no pedal option as you have to pedal no matter what but the bike is night and day different in quality and if your battery does go dead you can actually pedal or push it out easily

Also check the warranty on the diff bikes when purchasing cause this could make a diff. Our Juggernaut's are made in Canada and I had a gear go out in it the drive system, took for ever to get repaired and these bikes weren't cheap. I broke the connector from the bike to battery on my Specialized unloading it out of the truck and the local shop fixed it and warrantied it instantly with a brand new battery and it was my fault, not a defect.

Not as integrated as one made by specialized or other high end pedal bike manufacturers. the options for doing it yourself tend to exclude torque sensing power distribution and hidden motors/batteries and are higher in weight than one made by a pedal bike co. This only matters if you want it to behave like a pedal bike with “help”, particularly for recreational trail riding.
I built mine for trapping and grouse hunting with a big motor, huge battery and a wide gear ratio. I have a trailer for it and regularly use it to haul 3 50# beaver and three 12”x18”x36” traps at the same time. I have had 250# in the trailer on fairly flat roads and you know that it’s behind you but it pulls it just fine. I don’t think many off the shelf bikes will do that, particularly the hub drives.

My friend Peddled up Hollar pass which is 8 to 9 miles and almost
3000 ft elevation on full power and still had 50% power left when done.
Specialized is diffidently best in class.

I ended up getting one, its on its way... a buddy has a Rambo 750 that I have been putting a few miles on... road some steep hills last weekend and it went OK, but was surprised how much battery it was using. I did fine on level 2 but steep long hills are a bigger workout than most people who haven't rode an ebike think.

What kind of elevation climbs do these bikes climb before the battery gives up the ghost? Could you climb 3,000 feet?
There are a lot of variables in that e.g., battery size, grade, bike power, how much are you peddling, …
Most bikes are limited to 750 watts. A typical battery is about 700-watt hours. That gives you less than an hour at full power. If you can maintain 10mph up a 7% grade using the 750watts, that would give you over 3000ft elevation.

After finally getting my bike back from the shop, new rear hub, breaks and adjusted right, it feels like a different bike. What shop did you go to? Here in Olympia, the shops I have talked to are anti-battery assist..

Trex bicycle in tukwila by south center mall. That anti battery bike sentiment is around my area too, in fact they really didn’t want to work on my bike but they did. They will NOT work on battery or computer issues. They did a great job on replacing my rear hub and adjusting my gearing.Forgot about this thread and wanted to do an update for any new or future rambo bike owners. I meant getting power to the front wheel. I have the RadRover but never thought of trying to get power to the front wheel as well.

To put multiple motors on your bike, it will require a special controller to handle the power distribution to the multiple motors. What this does is put X% power to the front and Y% power to the mid or rear motor when you twist the throttle or push the leaver to activate the power.
You just need a separate controller for each motor. There are devices to synch them up like you describe (such as Cycle Analyst), but it isn’t required.
From there you can drive them both from the same throttle, or have a separate throttle for each.

Sorry for bringing an old topic back to life, but I am researching ebikes and wondering if I should just attempt to build my own versus buying an expensive brand name bike. Can someone explain the advantage of a mid drive bike versus rear? Also, I see 8000w 72v hub kits for sale on Amazon. Besides weight what would be the downside to going with the biggest battery and highest watt drive that you can find?

The legal limit to be a bicycle is 750Watts. 8kw (10+ hp) is legally a motorcycle. Legalities aside, putting 8kw on a bicycle, with bicycle tires, brakes, suspension and frame is going to be a death trap. If you go that route, you should start with a motorcycle, not a bicycle.
