Some things to think about before purchasing tags this year and something everyone needs to be aware of before blasting a cougar. I am sure there will be some frustrated hunters when they let a cat pass then realize that they could have killed it. I am also sure that there will be some guys that get busted because they don't know the new rules.
The new WA cougar regs will read:
One cougar (down from 2)
Sept 1st - 25 Archery only
Sept 26th - Oct 16th Muzzle loader only
Oct 17th - March 31st General Season for certain zones.
Oct 17th - Dec 31st General Season and Jan 1st - March 31st permit season for certain zones.
Oct 31st - Nov 30th and Dec 1 - 31st permit season for certain zones.
-
I bought my tag before all this *censored*e...
so can I hunt for them during archery, etc if I use the appropriate weapon or do I need to pick a weapon?
I believe as long as I use the appropriate weapon I am ok, but I am waiting on the regs in mid april.
D~
-
So, are the new regs out then?
Where did you come up with this info?
-
This was straight from the commission meeting.
-
WTF!!!! i mean i understand with the way the regs were everybody was pretty much guaranteed a cougar cuz there a real gimme animal. why in the F^(& do we need these regs :bash:
-
The reasoning for the different seasons and equipment use, is they are baiting everyone up for the 2011 season, they are gonna start offering Multi season cougar permits!!! :chuckle:

LMAO... but serioulsy, an archery only season... Really? That is B.S.

This is the Game Dept's solution to people hunting with an illegal weapon, or for deer/elk with no tag, then when they get checked they just say "I was hunting for cougars". I guess it happens more than you think.
-
Yeah, this will suck, it means no cougar hunting during High Buck
-
You could still shoot one in self defense! :chuckle:

Not really, Bear is still open
Curious how this is going to effect places where they have hounds.....

According to the commission & F&W it is to hlep with the low population trends in certain units. They are also wanting the hounds to target the larger toms. They will be adding more hound hunts in the future.
-
HMMMM. Do I turn outlaw or dont I.......... :dunno: This state is out of ..........Never mind :beatdeadhorse: :beatdeadhorse: :beatdeadhorse:
-
I cannot believe the DUMB*censored*S that occupy seats on this commission. Archery and muzzleload only seasons you have to be kidding me. Pretty soon the predators will put the Game Dept. out of a job. Less deer, less elk, less need for a Dept.
Maybe the revisit on the bear issue in 2010 will be a slingshot only season.
-
I don't think this makes much sense. Cougars are hard enough to kill, more restrictions are going make it nearly impossible.
-
Dumbest thing I've see with the reg's. :bdid:
-

Aparently not when the tags are cheap and everyone has one. The problem seems to be too many females and young males are being killed and not enough older toms.
-
that is so dumb im gettin fed up with all of washingtons new laws coming out

Maybe I'm not thinking this through, but why is that bad?

Too many females killed mean no cats in the future.
Too many old toms keep and defend much larger areas then young toms. Two young toms can occupy the same space as one old tom. Killing the older toms can mean more cougars in the same space.
-
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm........Low population trends. :bash: :bash: :bash:
-
I don't want to see cougars killed off, but do we need to protect their numbers this much? I honestly don't know, I just haven't noticed a bunch of cats being killed lately.
-

But you guys will get more oportunity with dogs in the near future.
-
I sold my dogs. I'm a boot hunter now.
-
No sense in buy a cougar tag this year! Or probably ever again. I usually hunt cougar in September while hunting bear. I wonder how much $ the WDFW will loose because of this?

I hear ya. That is when I hope to find one.
I am curious how much a deer, elk, bear tag cost vs deer, elk, bear, cougar. Probably more for the 3. :bash:
-
Yeah, but the first time that you don't buy a cougar tag, is when you see one asleep, sunning himself on a log, in the middle of the day, during deer season.
-
Ive only seen one in all my time in the woods, but the first time I dont purchase the tag like you all say, there he will be.
-
I guess we'll need to switch over to hunting large 5-6 ft, dark grey coyotes with rounded ears and wide muzzles. No weapon restiction there!
-
But do we have to chose what season we want? I got my tags 2 weeks ago. :dunno:

:yeah: :IBCOOL:

>:( like i said the WDFW SUCKS :bash:
-
I cant find my area in the new regs, 336-340, so does that mean I cant hunt cougar there even with a bow, or blackpowder, or other
-
They'll just lose revenue during hard times. I will not buy a cougar tag.
-
That rule change is pretty dumb. People are going to shoot cougars if they see them no matter what season, and rightfully so. There arent enough cats seen or shot to change the rules like that...
-

yeah i cant find 335 teanaway or 364 rimrock ??????
does that mean i cant shoot one if i see it.
i bought my tags a month ago and now i have no need for it.
WTF????
anyone ???
-

No you don't you just have to use the weapon that is being used during that time in that area. sept 1-25 archery gear, 26-? muzzle and so on.
here is the link to the regs

I do not like it, but there is no changin it now. At least we can use the rifle in Aug during early bear. :twocents:

You are reffering to this?

But I think it is a misprint because they use this for permits!

I guess you can't see the pics very well but basiclly the first says 336, 368 for general season. But the second one says 328-368 for permit season. So I am thinking it is a mis print or you could look at it as no restrictions in all units except 336 and 368.

i guess i would like to know for sure about 335 and 364.
the year i dont care about it i will see a big cat....
-
Apparently there is no reason for me to buy a cougar tag this year.
-
i wish i would have known this rule before i bought mine.................... :bash:
-

I bet you aren't the only one that didn't know, nor will you be the last. :bash: I guess i just lucked out not having money usually until the spring time to buy my tags.
-
Sept 1st - 25 Archery only
This irritates me the most. I am not a bow hunter, but this screams poachers to me. Now all people have to do is say they are cougar hunting. :bash:. I really hope we dont hear of this.
yeah cougar hunting...see a big buck or w/e the legal deer or elk is in the unit. then shoot it and go get ur tags.
i know alot of people who do that during elk season. if they see a buck then shoot it and go get their tags. >:(
-
Some of the changes with the regs are good. Like big bull permits in sept but Archery for cougar. What a joke. This is not the way to manage our wildlife. >:( >:(
-
Wildlife? Managing wildlife? We don't manage wildlife in this state. We manage hunters. Managing wildlife is what they do in other western states...

Couldn't have said it better. Thank you!
-
you cant please all the hunters all the time, you cant please some of the hunters some of the time, you can please the animals anytime.
so why not try and please themselve all the time.
give me a break.
if i had unlimited funds, i would buy every single hunter in this state an out of state lisence and w/e tags they want of thier choise and pay for all funds to get them to thier state of choice. just to get hunting in washington state boycotted for one season. then see how the wdfw likes that hit to thier wallet.
-
I dont care I see one I'll shoot it. Aint like you see them everyday, I think there are more bigfoot sightings then cougars, wdfw can suck my $!#@!!! There about retarded. Im gonna call them and talk to them ask why in the hell do they feel its necessary to make these Gay ASS laws. WDFW can blow me im pissed
