With everything going on right now my boys hunters Ed class got cancelled. Any instructors on here have any info on our options? I had him signed up for the in classroom instruction but am willing to do the online one if we can get things done this year. Was hoping to get him in for youth permits but looks like that may not happen. Thoughts, ideas?

Got him signed up, piece of cake but cost $ 19.99 says he has 90 days to complete. Thanks for the point in the right direction looks like he he can go after some Turks while I’m chasing bears in 121 after all

Good info! Might have my daughter do this as some of her “school” work while we’re stuck at home. I’ll miss the great experience we had when my son and I went to the classes though.

Just wow. I had my kid take the multi-day class and fail the test by 1 question and then do it online and pass and then go to the field exam and fail as did 4/5 other kids that day and then retake the online class and then pass the field class. Whew. I was really hoping for youth turkey but we’ll see what happens now. In all honesty I’m really OK that he had to retake classes as it ground a few important safety things into him. He’s now reminding me of things like unloading ammo when going under gates.

Contact your local WDFW office and ask to talk to their regional hunter ed coordinator. They are scheduling classes for 8 years olds. You have to do the online course, pass that and then reach out to them. They will schedule a day and time to come in take another test and then do the field evaluation. If your child fails the test right at the beginning there is no need to do the field evaluation. The test isn't difficult and if they passed the online test they will have absolutely no problem passing the short test to start the day. When they pass then they move on to the next step which is the field evaluation.
It doesn't happen often but occasionally a parent will do the online portion for the youth and assume all the child has to do is safely handle the firearms. The short test at the beginning proves whether the student actually did the online portion.
We give the same test at our regular field evaluation classes. We teach 8-10 classes a year and every year there is someone that shows up and misses 8-10 out of 20 questions, they obviously didn't do the online course themselves. Most people get 90-100% on the test if they did the online portion themselves.

Just sent you a PM with Steven's contact information. He should be able to get you dialed in.

Awesome thank you for the input! Yes I agree it is pathetic that parents are doing the online class for the kids I do not agree with that at all, it is a easy step in life that we all had to do. My son has just started the process and wanted to see about the field day! Thank you again!
