Title: WY - Applying?
Post by: Stein on April 13, 2020, 09:35:51 AM
There are a few threads on ID and MT, so I thought I would float this one up especially since WY F&G sent out the e-mail saying you have to quarantine for 14 days if you come over to hunt.

I have points for antelope in WY and MT and will probably bank points in WY and apply in MT for this year as it looks like MT is more of a sure bet and the season I would apply for is later in the year and pretty long.

I'll bank points in WY deer and elk as well this year.

Wait......what? Quarantine for 14 days? Currently or in September?

currently. Contrary to popular belief, the world is in fact NOT ending. Fall seasons will be in full swing and I'll be applying for deer and hoping the hysteria that kept MT apps down, will push through to WY as well and guarantee me some tags :IBCOOL:

I called Wyoming last week about this and if there is a stay at home order in either state then they would consider that by allowing to use the tag next year but I think the 14 day quarantine in the fall will be gone by then, I hope

I'll probably wait till the end of May to decide what to do, see how the virus goes as well as the drawings in other states more importantly.

The current regulation expires on 4/30 unless extended.  It's not clear under what circumstances it may be extended, but common sense would say that WY would look outward and determine the risk of allowing nonresidents in.  They likely can't do it state by state, so we are likely lumped in with every other state.

It would be very nice if states would publish official guidance like what they will do if either state has a stay at home order or a quarantine in place.  If we knew we would either get a refund or transfer to the next year that would resolve a bunch of apprehension in sending a bunch of money their way.  It sounds like MT plans on doing that, but I haven't seen official guidance from any state yet.

Will apply for WY antelope and leftover cow elk. Not worried at all.

If I didn't want to hunt antelope so bad this fall I'd apply for an area that I'm one point short on and hope the virus will give me an edge on drawing it. Could be some crazy draw odd this year.

If this crap is still going on in September, hunting & a 14 day quarantine will be the least of our worries! :chuckle: I will be in the Wyoming range with my resident buddy regardless of the politicians playing election year games with the plague! :IBCOOL: :hello: :chuckle:

Already in for Region K deer and antelope!  Points again for me this year with the elk.  Elk and deer hunting in Montana, deer and antelope in Wyoming, and Washington deer will keep me busy enough this fall!

Quote
CHEYENNE — The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is suspending the sale of nonresident daily and five-day fishing licenses, effective immediately. This suspension is due to the need to ensure individuals coming into Wyoming for a non-work related purpose comply with Governor Gordon’s April 3, 2020 Directive requiring a fourteen day quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic. Individuals are responsible for complying with all state and local orders.

The suspension of nonresident fishing licenses is a temporary measure to give the department the ability to align with state and local social distancing guidelines, directives, and orders which were put in place for public health and safety. Authority was granted through an emergency rule signed by Governor Gordon.

Emergency regulations remain in place for 120 days. The Department may reverse this license sale suspension if guidelines, orders, or directives are changed.

Put my son & I in for antelope.
Unit 42 for bucks with 3 points, last year 3 points was 100%
Unit 43 for doe tags. This unit has 90,000+ Access YES land between two ranches
My son's last year as a youth, so wanted a 100% unit to hopefully draw tags for his first out-of-state hunt
now the wait............. :o

Next time we will be applying for 52. Luckily I have a brother who lives/guides in the area.

Agreed, Elk draw was exact

Have they released the 2020 regs and specific hunt dates yet?  I can only find the 2019 regs online.  My group drew elk and w/o excessive point creep should be 100% on deer.  Getting excited!

So we applied for buck tags in unit 34 with 11 point average. That better get us in!

I put in for antelope with 3 points in the special draw. I had a friend bail on me two weeks before the deadline or we would have had 4 points going into the draw. Cheap B didn't want to pony up for the special draw even though I was doing all the research, and was going to supply all the camping gear and was using my truck and wasn't going to charge him for gas for the entire trip.
Probably for the best because he would not want to hunt that long to kill a good antelope > 78 inches. I;m retired now so lots of time to hunt. I plan to get there 5 days early to scout.

If he lets me piggyback on his 6 points next year he will be sharing the gas if I drive. I'll be 70 in July so not to many years to earn points. I may have to prostrate myself to hunt in the dreaded NE. corner and go blind looking at my GPS, SUCKS

You'll draw H for sure, but good luck on G.
6 for G is still in random territory so like 4% draw odds and H can't be drawn as a second choice.
Title: Re: WY - Applying?
Post by: Maverick on June 09, 2020, 10:34:43 AM
G was 50 percent odds last year with 6 points. When I read through it I thought last years numbers showed some tags were given out in H for second choice. Rather have G anyways. If I dont draw I'll try to buy an idaho tag.
Title: Re: WY - Applying?
Post by: Karl Blanchard on June 09, 2020, 11:06:26 AM
You must be referring to Special then? In the regular draw there was zero permits issued at 6pts. As for H, there are no tags available for a second choice. everything goes to first choice applicants.

I think G creep will continue to climb as max point holders get frustrated with lack of lowl land, big buck options for the foreseeable future.

I bailed with 8 last year.  Meant to do it at 5/6 points, but got distracted with some big CO deer.

I drew H on 09/10 with zero points.   Had to do special with 3 to guarantee  a tag this year.

I agree.  H is still attainable as a random draw but I think even that is gonna go to single digits here in the near future. I'm in with 2 but with the way these other states are showing big spikes in applicants I'm not holding my breath on it be over 70% again  :'(
