Title: Without internet how do they get word out?
Post by: Tracker0721 on April 15, 2020, 08:33:30 PM
Ran into a guy today excited to be going turkey hunting. He bought his license before the closures, follows the laws but is really off grid and only comes into town every other week or once a month to grab groceries or gas. He had no idea seasons been closed! So how are those without internet being informed seasons closed? There’s a lot of hill people up here and I haven’t seen signs or anything posted anywhere. I haven’t even gotten an email or seen them post to their Facebook that turkey is closed. They only sent out spring bear and youth turkey was closed. But ya check on their website and it says it’s closed to may 4th.

In certain cases, a ticket may be the notification.

They have emergency fishing closures over here all the time and people are expected to know.  I believe it is the person’s responsibility to verify open season. How to do that without the internet in a situation like this, I have no clue.

Would be pretty likely to have the ticket dropped, in my opinion.

For Turkey I would think they fill there tag and done.
If they truly don't have internet there not gonna post it on the web.So who is really gonna know.
Not promoteing illegal activities
Just really no way of knowing your not legal.
When you buy a tag+paper regs.

Well you better get up to Republic and post flyers all over town then go door to door way up in the back woods with this virus going on and see what happens. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Yeah. I remember the same thing happening when it went from any whitetail to buck only for archery. Heard of a lot of guys shooting does. Same guy got mad when he heard I was bear hunting last August because his regs didn’t show we changed it.

Alot of rural folks don't keep up with regulation changes. The old paper back regulation is the hunting bible.

I'm hearing of a fair amount of shooting going on in the county which a great deal is probably target practice, but there quite a few random shots here and there too. I've heard of one person who actually saw someone shoot a turkey recently, but nobody has any idea who the shooter was? Have to wonder if they didn't know season was closed or if they decided to hunt anyway?

If its going on all day long sporadically it's probably target practice,   someone poaching a turkey is going to shoot once then get their bird and get outta there

:yeah: That's exactly what I figure too, so I'm pretty suspicious of the the single shots through the day.

What ever happened to the poster named Campmeat? He was always a ray of sunshine on matters such as the virus  :chuckle:

What about that Plateau guy? Native isnt he? Havnt heard from him in a while. It'll probably come out that sweat lodges kill the virus.

The Russians are finding out that Vodka doesnt work.

It's the sportsman's responsibility to know the regulations.  In this state, it's common for the printed regulations to be out of date, either because of errors, additions or emergency regulations.  It's not easy for us, but it is the way it is.

I get that some people aren't connected, but you have to be pretty aggressively not listening to anything to not know we are in a pandemic and a bunch of stuff is closed.  Internet, television, radio, newspaper, people talking around town, guy at the sporting goods store where you buy your license and ammo.  Pretty much anywhere you look you see mention of hunting and fishing closed.

If nothing else, you would notice nobody out turkey hunting.  I found out about a fishing closure that way once, didn't check and drove to the Everett ramp and had it all to myself - that was a pretty good clue.

I’ve been trying different beers. So far it’s working.
