Spent six hours on the water today working on a juvenile salmon diet study (deemed essential for you all ready to turn me in.... ). Couldn't drop a line on the way home to try to catch dinner.
Maybe, instead, I should have headed into town, using more gas, requiring more gas station use, got in line at the grocery store and bought some Tilapia or other farmed fish. I'm sure this would have less of an impact on potential virus spread since I only involve fish farmers, processors, transportation workers, loading dock workers and someone to stick that fish in the display case. Let's not forget the cashiers and the workers who have to round up carts from the parking lot as well.
But yeah, I'm selfish for wanting to be able to fish to feed myself and my family..... :bash: Thanks libs and you guys on here that have no concept of personal responsibility. :bash:

Not sure if you're bragging or ranting, but either way, I'm jealous!
-
If I put a "research" sign on my boat can I go fishing too?
-
I’m selfish too I guess because springers are swimming out in the river and I can’t go get them.. did anyone hear when the announcements about outdoor recreation are supposed to be?

Ranting, mostly....
This anti-fishing shutdown is BS. I could fill my truck and boat at a local gas station, pack my food and snacks bought at a local store, drive almost 150 miles and back and fish to my hearts content without endangering the safety of any other people. Never mind that many fisherpeople don't have to drive other than to the local lake or boat ramp to go fishing.
Let us fish governor Inslee you controlling, self-important piece of crap!

And spring bear hunt!!!!

I hope we all remember this when the time comes when you're deciding which box to fill in on your election ballot.

I can’t wait to vote red, this has been a real eye opener to me.

We took our boat out and trolled around the Bay, didn't need no "Research Sign" and nobody dared stop us! :IBCOOL:

Thanks, dilleytech, How's the Columbia River looking for this weekend?
My friend was wondering if we could come over for some Water Skiing behind his Old Army Navy Surplus Boat "GHOST".
P.S.... I'll be bringing a few friends along.

True that! :yeah:

wish you would have been able to fish. On that note lol i'm glad you were able to use a power boat that didn't need you to stop at a gas station and selfishly infect a small town with covid. Also super grateful that you obviously went without lunch as to avoid any of the other reasons we non essentials are for not being allowed to fish. Oh you did need gas and you ate lunch at the local fast food :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :dunno:
just a joke like the ban so everyone keep your shirts on.

I did buy gas in Burlington on the way back from visiting my family in Sultan but before stopping at a friend's place in Oak Harbor to help him with his sunroom build. My Jack in the Box burger and fries was pretty tasty on the boat trip back to the island as well.

This day we collected plankton samples at two locations, Watmough Slough on Lopez and out at Waldron Island in the photo. We also did a food fish beach seine (80' net) at Watmough to try to get samples of Candlefish (Sandlance) and Herring. We caught about 2000 juvenile Pink Salmon with a bunch of young of the year Greenling in the mix. We did get about 8 Sandlance.
The plankton is collected to see what the abundance of food sources there are throughout the year for juvenile salmon, especially Chinook, and food fish like Sandlance, Herring, and, increasingly, Anchovies. Starting the first week of May, we will be using a larger net (120') to target food (for salmon) fish and juvenile Chinook Salmon. This is an ongoing study over a decade at these locations. The Chinook, if caught, are lavaged (made to barf up their dinner by carefully injecting saltwater into their stomachs (mortality rate less than 1%). They can then correlate the salmon's diet with what is available at the time.
For a more detailed description and results, Kwiaht.org is where to look.
