My brother and I will be leaving for Montana again on the 9th. I just found out the 17,000 acre ranch we hunt in the SE is now 24,000 acres, what a bummer. We already had some of the best deer area in the state to hunt and now its even bigger. I will take tons of pics this year and post some of them for you guys, the place is loaded with animals. I'm so stoked I can't hardly sleep................rf
-
Good Luck!!!
-
50CalJim and I are on the same timeline with you in MT, but we will be hunting National Forest Land for both deer and elk. Good luck.
-
Have fun. We leave the 14th. We have a couple ranches to hunt. One is for sale right now. If I had $14,500,000 I would buy it myself.
-
Good Luck!
-
Sweet, we are leaving on the 16th. The ranch we will primarily hunt is 35,000 acres also. I'll throw some pics up as well when we get back at the end of the month.

-
Right on, sounds like several of us "Coasties" will be posting pics from Montana this year, I can't wait to see all the bucks. Here is one from a couple years ago from the area I hunt.

I was right in between Lewistown and Winnett back in September. Decided to go back for Archery season this year. Man I wish I was gettin' ready to go back!! Huntin' back there in September was something, but nothing beats huntin' those Mulies in November.
Good luck to all you guys......
Here's at least two animals you guys won't see when you go back there ;)

Real sweet, nice shot on the whitetail. Gimongous bull. Did you hunt BMA lands/ State/ both?
-
I hunted some Private, some Block Management, and some BLM. There's quite a bit of all three.
Wasn't after a Whitetail at all, but couldn't resist going after him with that velvet. That was private property we had permission to hunt. The Elk was on BLM that bordered it. Last hour of my last day there....pretty lucky!
-
Nice! We have a pretty sure thing at a cow elk when we go, though I haven't decided yet if I will take one or not. I would not pass on a bull in our deer area though, but the cow elk area we've been invited too is a little ways from our deer area, not sure if we'll head over there or not, nice to have options though.
-
Very nice Slyr, can't complain about that. Unfortunatly the bulls in the area we hunt deer are draw only. Too bad too, there are some dandy bulls on my friends ranch. We will head back west, after we tag our deer, and see if we can find a couple bulls in the Dillon area, thats where we hunt the archery season...............rf
-
Good Luck!
-
Im jealous of you Rob, you better kill that big one this year. no taking pictures this time!!! haha, anyways guys, Dad and I will be leaving around the 11th for lewistown ourselves. To the ranch he and i have been hunting for somewhere around 14 years. I cant wait, i love having a Montana Vacation!!!! Good luck to all.

No need to be jealous G, I'll drag you over there next time you draw anything other than a landowner tag..........................rf
-
You lucky dogs, all my hunting buddys left without me at 2:30 this morning headed for fort Peck then to dillion after the tag out at peck. I stuck at home waiting with my 3 points for next year. I got a little one on the way in 13 days so i couldnt make the trip over this year, Im pretty bummed right now. But so excited for the new addition to come so its worth it to miss a season. Good luck to everyone!
-
Leaving Sunday morning at o'dark thirty for our trip. Bro-in-law and nephew. The nephew is the real reason for this trip. Dad got him a landowner sponsor tag and I am the guide on this trip, no shooting for me as I am focused on him. I am always excited to help get a young man his first big buck, and I think he won't be disappointed. He has been calling and emailing me for two solid months. All my stories are keeping him awake! That is a great feeling. I hope to have a myriad of photos and goofy stories about the trip upon my return next week-end to share with you all. :IBCOOL:

Just talked to a friend that went over Friday. He said they passed on a big 5x5 whitetail 10 minutes into the hunt and saw several 4x4's about 24"-25" by the end of the day. Says there are deer everywhere and is trying to hold out for a big one. His grilfriend is with him and hunting too, I will post pics when they tag something. 5 more days, sleep is getting increasingly hard to come by.............rf
-
My uncle and cousin shot 2 six point bulls and also a 170 class 4 point..i will post pics when i get them....good luck over there...Justin
They say the deer are everywhere...Gosh am i jealous of all u goin over there...
-
headed back to milk river country this weekend. Can't wait to get in those cottonwoods. I have 8 tags to fill.
-
Sounds like the Lewistown area is quite popular. We own a small little place in Roy and hunt BLM, private land and block management. The best part of that, is we are leaving Friday. Good luck to everyone else!
-
I think most are just staying in the general Lewistown area, for accomodations. I know we hunt over an hour in a couple different directions from there, one of our spots is actually north of Roy also -but it is a larger place ;). throw up a report if you can and/ or pics.

We will be heading for Tongue River and Powder River...................rf
-
I just moved here (western WA) 6 months ago from Montana. Bitterroot Valley. Unbelievable hunting over there. Unfortunately I was only there for one hunting season, but I made the most out of it with a nice elk, whitetail and missed a Cinnamon colored bear.
Have fun over there and good luck!
-
Looks like we have a cold front coming in starting Sunday, lows in the 20's highs in the low 40's :IBCOOL:
-
heading out in the morning, going to stop in Idaho and hit the Cabelas grand opening, then hope to make it back by next Friday to hit the opening in HP.
-
good luck everyone, Dad and i are leaving Sunday earlier in the morning, be there a week or so. Cant wait!!!
-
Well, hunting season offically starts for me on Sunday. We are off tomorrow after work for Spokane, then on to the Ruby River in SW MT on Sat. It does look good for weather huntnphool, a couple of inches of snow each day is great where we are at, you run across some fresh tracks and get on them. We hunt up pretty high, camp is at 7200' and the top of the ridge is 10K+. Those first couple days are usually pretty painful until your lungs get used to oxygen starvation. I packed two cameras and aim to bring some stories and photos so I won't get banned from here. :chuckle:
Good luck to all going over, let's make those back here proud.
-
I had to kinda laugh at Huntnphool post about a cold front coming in and it's gonna be in the 20's. I remember Wea300mag & I were down by Alder Mt and it went from about 50 degrees to minus 30 degrees in about 8 or 10 hrs. A little rough when staying in a wall tent. :bs:
-
You know what I mean, compared to the 50's right now :camp: sheesh :tung:
-
I just packed my duffle, it has to weigh at least 100lbs, wool, wool and more wool..... I'm going to look like the kid on "A Christmas Story" who couldn't even walk.... But I'll be warm... :camp: :camp: :camp:
