Looking at the upcoming goat hunt leaves me with the impression that lead is an endangered species. I have zero experience with copper rounds and am looking at over the counter ammo for .243, .270 and 6.5cm. I'll be getting to the range when it opens next week and thought this would be a good cabin fever exercise.

I've had pretty good results with hammer bullets on deer sized game...might give them a look...esp if you get selected to do the cull

I was part of a sheep removal team here and also hunted the Kaibab in 2018, one required non toxic and the other strongly suggested it.
I worked up loads using Barnes LRX bullets for my 7 STW using the 145g bullet. I have since taken 4 animals and have been impressed with the performance. Longest shot was 345 yards, but all one shot kills. Accuracy is excellent. You can buy TTSX bullets for many calibers over the counter so I would give them a try.

Lead ammunition may well be banned in the not too distant future. California is already headed down that road.
Barnes ammunition is lead free and readily available in many places.

I've been using Barn's TSX in 6.5, .308 and 9.3 without any issues at all. I've never recovered a bullet form any game harvested with .308/30-06 all have been a thru and thru from 80 yards to over 200, one shot kills. The accuracy has ben very good, for an old fart with bad eyes 1" groups at 100. I did check the weight on each box of 150 and 180's all were as stated no + or -.

I only shoot Barnes TTSX now. 150grain out of my 30-06, just shy of 3000fps. From taking an elk at 40 yards to a pronghorn at 376. Never had a problem. Been so happy with it, probably will never shoot lead at big game again.

I use 140 gr TTSX IN MY 280 AI and 210 gr TSX in my 338 WM. Both were easy to find an accurate load with. I shot my deer this year with the 280 and have taken 3 moose in Alberta with the 210’s. They are a fine bullet IMO.

I shoot hornady GMX with my .270 and will never use lead again. Out performed all lead I’ve used prior.

I used Barnes TSX and TTSX bullets for years with good results and they're available in factory loads for those calibers. I've tested the Nosler E-tips and the Hornady GMX bullets and they seem to work well too, I've just never used them on animals.

I picked up a box of Barnes TTSX's 168gr to start developing a load for my 300WSM hopefully to use on the goat cull. I need to find something for when I run out of Hornady Interbonds anyhow.

I started using the Barnes TSX bullets about 12 years ago and its my go to bullet now. I know people that wont use them because they say that they loose animals with them , they claim that the bullet doesn't exspand, that has not been my esperiance I've never lost an animal shooting copper, So from 50 to 350 yards all my kills have been one shot. This year Im reloading some Hornadys ELD-X for my wifes rifle . So I'm a beleaver in the copper bullets.
