Anyone been up into the blues? Looking to see what roads are open. Specifically looking for the Eastern side. Cloverland Rd (NF rd 43)? Or The West Mountain Rd out of Anatone (NF rd 4304).
I’m heading down there on Thursday and will update this thread, but would be nice to have an idea how access is before hand.
-
Ive been up the 40 out of Pomeroy the past two weeks and the snow is melting fast off the road. I would think by next Thursday things will be pretty clear except in the highest, shadiest spots. If there are any road closures due to the virus ordered mandate they should be opened on Tuesday.
Have fun, its a great time of the year to be up in the Blues.

Tagging along, I'm looking for info on this as well

Went up FR40 yesterday again. I made it 7 miles past the entrance to the National forest before i had to put it in 4wd, made it another mile before i thought better of going on with my highway tires. The guard station was in view about 3/4 mile away. If you are looking at the latest Delormes I made it just past "Pole Manger Springs", pg 96. Highest elevations still have quite a bit of snow. Id say another 10 days at least before things are clear enough at the higher elevations to camp or traverse with a travel trailer. I could have made it further with more aggressive tires.
I ended up tent camping at "Powell Camp". The forest service has put up a bunch of new signs telling you whats what. Kind of nice. Some motorcycle camps and some target shooting in the later part of the evening. I'm cool with both...the motorcycles sounded like fun. My old MX instincts were kicking in as i listened to them ride about. Woke to frost and a few elk feeding about 60yds from my tent. The zipper on the tent opening had them moving on their way unfortunately. Saw a few whitetails on a morning walk before i left.
The Tuccannon rd is still closed past Rainbow lk. I was talking with an ole boy last week who said the rd has been washed out. :dunno: Not good. I didnt go up Skyline to see if its open.
Good luck to the bear and turkey hunters

**Update from 5/8-5/10** Got back from a scouting/ family camping trip yesterday (5/10). Access up Cloverland Rd. (NF 43) was decent for 4x4 vehicles. A couple drifts remaining on the main rd and one really soft muddy section. But it was easy enough to get up to the top road (NF 4304). Going West on 4304 there is a big drift still at the first hill below the Wenatchee guard station cabin. UTVs and ATVs were going over the drifts fine, but it was too deep for highway vehicles. Going East I made it to just past the 4304-100 rd. before getting to snow that looked deeper than I wanted to tackle. This was all at about 5000' elevation. Most all of the snow was gone except those drifts out of the direct sunlight.
I should be heading back up one, two or all three of the next 3 weekends.

Any new updates? Headed over next weekend and curious if its open or if we need to drive to Troy and come in that way? Thanks fellas.
-
Hopefully someone that has driven up above bluewood will reply but I would be shocked if you can get very far from that side. There are always big snow drifts that take along time to melt out to get to any of the trailheads on that side. Join everyone else at three forks :)

I am told that you can "almost" get to Godman. :twocents:

The Wife's Family Cabin at Twin Buttes on May 5th! Tons of snow still up there!

Cool picture

I was at three forks the weekend before, grass was 10"+high. By this weekend you should be able to get anywhere till need to

Last Weekend you couldn’t get past the Wenatchee Trail Head heading West on NF 43.

Anyone know if you can get to the top from the Grouse Flats side?

How far past dry camp? A week ago any two wheel drive on the planet could make it no problem to dry camp.

yes, to dry camp from grouse creek rd is clear, if we are talking about the dry camp just across from the road that goes up to the towers. Past that about 1/4 mile or so it get blocked, you can’t make it to the horse camp in the saddle.

Just drove up there. You can get almost a mile from Dry camp now. Quads are running over the 3 or 4 snow banks. So it won’t be too much longer before it’s open.

I just called the usfs and asked about access to Godman and she said you cant access godman because of snow. Anyone know that for certain, she didnt seem real confident.

We came out of Anatone up Mountain View and almost made the loop to Troy couple slides at saddle(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200526/a3d989721ce536b5c5a4aad206a5c5c3.jpg)
butte. The Jeeps came up out of Dayton and Pomeroy also. The top has about 1 1/2 to 2 foot of snow. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200526/ef8c5f81d24ee34cd482615af303ffca.jpg)

Not sure I saw you. We were driving a grey Chevy Colorado. At Dry camp there was a dodge truck parked with no canopy. Then on the way back down we talked to two bear hunters pulling a horse trailer. Can't remember what kind of truck.

Anyone know if Teepee spring up past Godman is a viable source of water? Thinking about hoofing it in past the snow.

Any place there is snow there is water. Especially with the hot weather this weekend. The drifts I have been seeing the last several trips have a steady flow of water coming out the downhill side.
-
Just checking. Anybody make it up to Sawtooth last weekend?snow still pretty deep?
-
Just got back and you can drive to teepee if you had a chainsaw you'll be able to get to the trailhead. We hiked in on friday and snow kept of from getting much past godman. After today, one small snowdrift that will be gone in a day or two.
-
Pretty much all open 40 from Pomeroy to Troy. A few big driftsnleft but we made it in a stock Toyota. Full size may have a few issues.
-
How about now? Can a guy make it from pomeroy to Troy in a full size truck? My future son in law is headed over for one last trip by himself.
-
Yes you can make it to Troy shes wide open

Thanks, now just need to decide which route is fastest to take from west side to 3 forks trail head?? Pomeroy to 3 forks, Anatone to top then to 3 forks, or just go down the canyon to grouse creek?
-
One last question for one last trip, is the 4030 rd open to kelly camp? I'd be coming from pomeroy.
