After a lot of pondering and pondering some more I finally pulled the trigger on a Browning hells canyon long range chambered in 270wsm. I put my hands on a little of models and the browning just seemed right in the hands. Will be topping it off with a leupold scope when it arrives.

Very nice!

Own both the 6.5 creedmore and .300 win Mag, you will be very happy. Both are topped with Leupold VX5-HD CDS scopes.

I have the Browning long range 7mmRM. Your 270WSM will be great. Good luck.
Those Brownings just fit me well. And the accuracy from factory is great.

Thats going to be a great setup!

They are a super nice piece of gear. I have one in 26 Nosler, and it is one of my favorite to shoot.

Great rifle and great chambering. Can’t stand the .277 bore diameter with the acception of the .270 WSM. In a smaller lighter configuration. If your going with a heavier rifle might as well up the horse power.

You’re not the first person I’ve seen say that, I’ve just never understood that opinion. To me, since there are only 3 common cartridges chambered in it, almost all bullets are in that caliber are designed to perform well in them on just about anything in North America. Unlike say, 7mm where there’s softer bullets designed for the 7x57, or stouter ones for the magnums. Maybe that makes it boring?

With the .270 WSM you get a 200 fps + again over the .270 Win with a 140gr bullet. Combine those speeds with a 140gr Accubond and you have a flat shooting, hard hitting, game killing combo. That is performing much more towards 7mm Magnum numbers. In a more compact, short action configuration. Everything I have shot with one, using this combo has been a bang/flop. Bullet performance has been excellent from point blank to 400 yards.

I think the 270 WSM is a great cartridge, but I get 3100 fps with my standard 270 Win. and 140 grain bullets. Does the WSM really get 200 fps better than that?

What powder and charge are you getting 3100? Must be pretty hot?

Reloader 26, 61.2 grains. Here's some Berger data:

A .270 WSM can be handloaded to velocities over reloading book numbers. Just the same as a .270 Win can be.😉 Yes, 200 fps faster.
-
My favorite deer and black bear cartridge is the .270 WSM shooting 140 accubonds !!
Deadly combo for sure and being a short action is awesome!

I am in similar shoes.
3167 fps (5 short average) out of my standard 270 win, 130 grain bullets with a 22.5" barrel. If a 270WSM was really 200fps faster than that I would be interested, but I am skeptical.

Nothing to be skeptical about. 3400+ is easy to get from a .270 WSM with a 130gr bullet. The Nosler books max velocity load is 3396 fps with the 130gr and the books are conservative when it comes to the top end. The .270 WSM is a performer.

So far gun has preformed flawlessly. I've killed 2 bears and 2 yotes so far this month.

I’ve chronographed my 270wsm with 140 grain hornady’s at 3,200 FPS and great accuracy.
