I have been given permission to hunt on private land in a pear orchard for a late season hunt . It's very open with little cover between the trees and rows . I have a doghouse blind but I have read that the birds are still some what leery when a blind is placed in the open as I would be doing . Any suggestions would be helpful . Thanks .

I use a very simple blind..... a camo curtain on some stakes.
I don't think turkeys are brilliant, and I have no issues putting up my curtain blind just about anywhere.
I don't think a turkey has ever spooked or shied from my blind...... it sure beats being seen.

In my experience the birds aren't very weary of pop up blinds in general. If possible set the blind up well ahead of your hunt and let the birds acclimate to it. Wear dark clothes inside to break up your outline.

My experience is also that the birds pay no attention to pop up blinds. They are so effective I almost consider them cheating-just a personal thing, no judgement of others using them. Birds are most aware of any movement, that's ANY movement. I've actually sat perfectly still in the middle of a field and had them come close enough to shoot. Occasionally one of those old hens that seems to have a 6th sense will stick her head up and start plucking a warning, but they'll do that even when I know they can't see me. Small blind with no movement should be all you'll need

Blind will work great, make sure you sit with windows shut behind you. Darm clothes as mentioned. I have setup blinds the same morning and killed birds.

I second the comment about setting up the night before. Make the noise when they are getting into the roost, not when they are about to come down from it. My opinion only.
