Title: Bear hunting in the twilight zone
Post by: Bango skank on May 26, 2020, 09:24:32 PM
Well, found an area in idaho (first year buying idaho tags) earlier this month when it was still snowy, poor access, no greenup.  Looked good.  Scouted it on google earth, looked really good.  Got back this afternoon and spent 5 hours behind the binos looking for bear and seeing what this area has to offer.

Afternoon tally:
Cow elk:  ~20
Bull elk: 4
Cow moose:2
Mule deer: 6
Whitetail: 10
Bears: ZERO

crazy, im so used to hunting in washington where the predators outnumber everything else, this is kinda creeping me out.  I mean, im here looking for bears, so i guess i should be disappointed, but im really not.  Im just accustomed to seeing more bears than ungulates when i glass this time of year.  What a difference a state line makes.

That is strange we saw more bears and bear sign in Washington the other day then deer sign as is pretty common around here. We couldn’t even get to our trail cam without being forced away by a momma and 1.5 yr cub. Just waiting for those OTC spring bear tags..

In 7 days of spring bear here in the NE, I've seen 10-12 deer and 4 moose. Seen 20 plus bears, wolf and cougar tracks, and called in two yotes. Pretty sad.
