Title: Help deciding on Rifle/Caliber
Post by: mp.hunter on May 28, 2020, 09:37:35 AM
Hello,
I have narrowed my choices of rifle to:
Bergara Wilderness Ridge 6.5 PRC-
A little heavier than the Tikka, only 2 round         capacity

Or

Tikka T3x Veil Wideland,
   270 WSM or 7mm.08
Lighter and more ammo options but slightly more expensive than the Bergara.

This gun is mainly for deer and antelope but I like these calibers for elk option as well. I currently have calibers in 300 WSM, 7mm and 300 win.

Thanks for any input.

What you already have handily covers elk, so Id be looking at lighter weight deer/lope rifle in some form of 6.5.  The 270wsm and 7/08 are more of the same you already have.  Im just not entirely sold on the PRC.

Of the three calibers you listed, I like the 7mm-08 the best. Though I agree with the previous post: the -08 overlaps a bit with what you already have. If you're looking for a dedicated deer / goat gun, you might consider something in .25 (25.06 is my personal go-to, but I also like .257 Wby.).

On the rifle, I love my Tikkas.

Those "25"s are great choices and so is a straight up .270 win.

Of those choices the prc wins in the wind depending on bullet choice

A 26 nosler with the Barnes lrx would be a good option too

Well  look at the down range ballistics of your choices. And figure in your hunting style.
I would pick the one I could hunt with in my senior years.

For me it was a Savage 110 Storm in 7 mm 08.
